KDInfotech IT Infrastructure Engineer Remote · Full time Company website

As a IT Infrastructure Engineer, you'll be the go-to "fix it" person supporting our Windows and Linux server and client fleet, both on-premises and in the cloud. This role is roughly 80% focused on our on-premises IT infrastructure servers, with the remaining 20% supporting and understanding our AWS cloud environment — we have a dedicated cloud team responsible for AWS, but this role overlaps with their work and is expected to understand and support it where needed. You'll own our VMware (v8) virtualization environment, manage our TrueNAS storage platform, and work closely with our Cybersecurity team and Senior Network Engineer to keep the environment secure, patched, and performing well. This role requires occasional after-hours availability for emergency break-fix support and planned maintenance windows. It's a varied, hands-on role on a great team — no two days look the same. Remote or onsite.

Description

Who Should Apply

An ideal candidate is a self-starter, self-motivated, and naturally curious, with a genuine passion for IT. We're looking for someone who enjoys solving unique problems by creatively utilizing existing toolsets and thinking outside the box — a true problem-solver at heart.

Key Responsibilities

Storage & Backup

  • Administer and deploy enterprise storage platforms (TrueNAS SCALE/Enterprise, Pure Storage FlashArray/FlashBlade), including pool/RAIDZ design, Active Directory integration, UID/GID mapping, snapshots, and replication.
  • Own capacity management and firmware/OS patching across storage arrays; troubleshoot permissions and ACL issues (NFSv4, SMB).
  • Maintain Veeam backup jobs and validate backup integrity across environments.
  • Evaluate, propose, and roll out capacity-management and disk-usage tooling (e.g., JAM Software SpaceObServer) including licensing and vendor account management.
  • Lead storage migration projects (e.g., Pure Storage to TrueNAS) including as-built documentation and deployment runbooks.

Virtualization

  • Administer VMware vSphere/vCenter environments: upgrades, host consolidation, ESXi patching, and cluster migrations.
  • Manage NVIDIA vGPU driver and license-server upgrades; monitor GPU utilization via Grafana/Prometheus dashboards.
  • Build and maintain high-compute VMs to support research and lab teams with an automation-first mindset.
  • Evaluate alternative virtualization platforms (e.g., Proxmox) as part of cost and architecture reviews.

Security & Patch Management

  • Drive CVE remediation efforts across Windows and Linux systems, tracking patch status and coordinating reboot windows.
  • Manage endpoint security tooling (CrowdStrike, PDQ) and reduce open vulnerability counts.
  • Support Active Directory hardening initiatives (security audits, Protected Users, LAPS, SMB signing) in partnership with the Cybersecurity team.
  • Build and maintain GPO baselines aligned to NIST/Microsoft security benchmarks.
  • Experience with scripting/automation and IaC (Bash, PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform).

Networking

  • Design and maintain VLAN and DFS namespace structures across sites.
  • Build and support RADIUS/NPS infrastructure, including certificate-based (EAP-TLS) authentication for Wi-Fi.
  • Troubleshoot firewall, DNS, and Active Directory computer-object issues; maintain monitoring agents (Datadog, Zabbix).
  • Monitor system performance and proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks or issues.

Vendor & Procurement

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for storage and virtualization vendors (Pure Storage, TrueNAS/iXsystems, Dell) including support-case ownership and hardware RMAs.
  • Manage software licensing and renewals with vendors (e.g., JAM Software, NVIDIA, Broadcom/VMware).

Documentation & Mentorship

  • Write deployment runbooks and as-built documentation clear enough for a junior engineer to follow independently.
  • Lead internal training/skill-share sessions on platforms you own (e.g., TrueNAS).
  • Produce clear project handoff documentation to cover for teammates during planned absences.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent hands-on experience. Experience in early-stage companies or life sciences/research environments is a plus.
  • 5+ years of hands-on IT infrastructure experience, including direct ownership of enterprise storage and virtualization environments.
  • Deep, production experience with VMware vSphere/vCenter and at least one enterprise NAS/SAN platform (TrueNAS, Pure Storage, or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory administration, Group Policy, and Windows/Linux patch management.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and support escalations directly (not just filing tickets).
  • Comfort designing and documenting infrastructure independently, with minimal day-to-day oversight.
  • Strong written communication — able to produce runbooks and proposals that others can execute against.
  • Experience supporting a multi-site environment (data center plus lab/office locations) is a plus.
  • Occasional after-hours availability for emergency break-fix and planned maintenance windows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Proxmox or other VMware alternatives.
  • Familiarity with Okta or another SSO/identity provider.
  • AWS experience (EC2, S3) in a hybrid on-prem/cloud environment.
  • Experience in a biotech, research, or other lab-driven organization.
