The Energy Engineer will function as contracted personnel to Willdan Energy Solutions. They will provide field and office-based engineering and energy assessment support for existing buildings and systems. Utilize their building controls knowledge to support our on-site assessment of energy and facility optimization projects. Candidates must possess strong technical capabilities including demonstrated interest in building systems, energy efficiency, green building, and sustainability.
· Conduct BPI (Building Performance Institute) certified energy audits, including diagnostic testing such as blower door and combustion safety testing.
· Ability to perform and read reports, including the ability to perform and report Manual N calculations.
· Perform detailed energy savings calculations and spreadsheet analysis.
· Collect and evaluate project documentation such as utility bills, as-built drawings, and other pertinent project information.
· Administer energy efficiency incentive programs, including identifying, estimating, and processing applicable utility and state incentives and rebates.
· Perform data entry and analyze energy usage data collected from audits, utility bills, and metering.
· Use effective writing and verbal skills to deliver high-quality reports and presentations.
· Calculate cost savings and return on investment (ROI) for energy-efficient improvements.
· Review architectural, mechanical, or electrical plans and specifications to evaluate energy efficiency or determine economic, service, or engineering feasibility.
· Inspect or monitor energy systems, including heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) or daylighting systems to determine energy use or potential energy savings.
· Conduct site visits to identify and/or confirm potential electric and gas conservation measures.
· Ability to review and analyze energy models, using software such as eQuest, EnergyPlus, TREAT, WrightSoft, or HAP, Viewpoint and Smart.
· Required to meet project submission deadlines.
· Coordinate meetings with energy contractors/consultants.

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, in engineering, preferred.
· 0 - 2 year experience in engineering/energy engineering industry.
· Ability to learn quickly from fellow engineers and supervisors, look up and reference ASHRAE standards, self-learn HVACR systems and components.
· Ability to work on multiple projects/tasks simultaneously and ensure timely delivery of high-quality deliverables.
· Ability to collaborate and contribute within a team environment.
· Ability to communicate proactively with the team, customers, and contractors.
· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving, entrepreneurial work environment.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and familiar with HVAC-R Modeling software (eQuest, Energy Plus, etc.)
· Ability to travel up to 10% of the time (post-pandemic: this is flexible at the current time). Travel may include various means of transportation including automobile, public transportation, rail, and airplane.
· BPI (Building Performance Institute) certification, or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe of employment.
· Knowledge of state and utility energy efficiency incentive and rebate programs.
· Familiarity with NYC Energy Conservation Code, NYC Local Laws (LL84, LL87, LL97), and the Energy Code of New York State, a plus.
· OSHA 30 certification, or willingness to obtain within 2 weeks of employment, a plus.
· Additional certifications a plus: Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Existing Building Commissioning Professional (EBCP), or Engineer in Training (EIT).

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
· Must be able to effectively communicate, both in writing and verbally, complex ideas, information, and concepts to all levels in the organization including executive management. Must be able to participate in verbal and written conversations, requiring ability to read, talk, hear, and understand what others are communicating as well as able to write, speak and effectively communicate with others.
· Regularly works in a modern business office environment and may occasionally work at other off-site locations. This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, regular business hours. This position may infrequently require longer hours and weekend work.
· The office environment is temperature controlled from 65 – 75 degrees, with no exposure to variable extremes of excessive heat or cold temperatures.
· Mild exposure to electrical shock through the use of office equipment such as computers, printers, telephones, cellular phones , and copier machines.
