About Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI)
KAVI is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) youth-serving organization with a mission to prevent and eliminate interpersonal violence from the lives of young people through advocacy, peer leadership, community mobilization, and social justice.
KAVI promotes community wellness and healing by operating high-impact youth violence prevention and intervention programs in Central Brooklyn. Our programs take place in hospital-based, school, and community settings. We are a fast-paced, rapidly growing nonprofit organization. We seek to build a team of individuals willing to work hard, be creative, build on opportunities, and think “out of the box.”
About Sexual Violence Prevention Program
All KAVI team members should act professionally. KAVI has run school programs since its start, addressing youth admitted to the Emergency Department with high-risk factors for violence. Our Sexual Violence Prevention program offers prevention and intervention using a trauma-informed approach, helping young people understand violence's impact and choose alternative behaviors. Since 2022, we have integrated social justice, restorative practices, and trauma-informed care into our curriculum to enhance our understanding of violence and support for youth.
KAVI’s Sexual Violence Prevention program is the newest part of our initiatives. We develop community engagement activities that unite families and neighbors to discuss and take action on violence prevention. Our programs assist community members in advocating for youth, understanding and practicing restorative justice, and participating in collective healing.
In the past year, our programs have sought to broaden our work to support Central Brooklyn’s resilience. A top priority of our community work is to create stronger linkages with the Brooklyn community, schools, residents, and the SUNY Downstate/KCH Medical community through youth development programming, advocacy, and engagement.
