As a KAVI School Violence Prevention Specialist, you will be a cohort member of the KAVI site team of Violence Intervention professionals, working alongside a Social Worker and the School Programs Manager within a school setting. With training, support, and utilizing KAVI curricula, you will design and facilitate conflict resolution workshops, provide mediation and mentorship support to students, and manage a caseload of KAVI VIP participants. Workshops and sessions are held in person at your assigned KAVI Site.

Kings Against Violence Initiative, Inc. (KAVI) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) youth-serving organization with a mission to prevent and eliminate interpersonal violence from the lives of young people through advocacy, peer leadership, community mobilization, and social justice.
KAVI promotes community wellness and healing by operating high-impact youth violence prevention and intervention programs in Central Brooklyn. Our programs take place in hospital-based, school, and community settings. We also work with a broad range of partners to do community strengthening and healing programs.

KAVI is seeking qualified School Violence Prevention Specialists (SVPS). The SVPS will act as a liaison between students, school administration, and KAVI staff to create supportive relationships, promoting continuity of care and minimizing instances of conflict in the school setting. SVPS utilizes interruption and de-escalation techniques within the school setting, provides support and intervention during KAVI school programs, and facilitates conflict resolution discussion groups and one on one conversations with teenagers. The School Violence Prevention Specialist’s role integrates the functions of case assessment and advocacy in the school setting for program participants.

Possible Shifts: Vary per site; generally, Violence Prevention Specialist work at least 10 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Saturday programs operate quarterly.
