Description

About Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI)

KAVI is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) youth organization dedicated to preventing interpersonal violence among young people through advocacy, peer leadership, community mobilization, and social justice. It promotes community wellness by running high-impact youth violence prevention and intervention programs in Brooklyn across hospital, school, and community settings. As a fast-growing nonprofit, KAVI seeks a team of hardworking, creative individuals eager to seize opportunities and think innovatively.

About Our School and Community Programs

Since our inception, KAVI has operated school-based programs for youth admitted to the Emergency Department with high risk factors for violence. Our programs offer prevention and intervention services using a module pedagogy. The curriculum helps youth understand violence's impact and guides them to choose alternative behaviors. Since 2022, social justice, restorative practices, and trauma-informed care have been integrated, deepening our approach to violence and youth work.

We’ve recently focused on enhancing resilience in Brooklyn by strengthening connections with the community, schools, and SUNY Downstate/KCH through youth development and advocacy. We also ran a 10-week program offering education, leadership, and psychosocial support to youth across NYC.
