About our Community-Based Victim Services Work

Our community program is the newest component of our programming. Our Victim Services work provides community members impacted by crimes with vital resources to help them heal and recover. We provide counseling, housing support, limited financial compensation, and links to government agencies and community-based organizations. 

Job Description:

This position is responsible for the provision of intensive case management, group activities and other program activities. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provide intensive counseling and case management services to individuals impacted by violence
  • Provide client referrals to community service providers;
  • Maintain intensive follow-up contact with clients
  • Document consistently and accurately in written and computerized records all contacts with clients;
  • Participate in violence prevention efforts with other providers as assigned;
  • Facilitate group counseling sessions;
  • Represent KAVI at community meetings and participate in violence prevention efforts with other providers as assigned;
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings;
  • Assist the director in representing KAVI to the media, public officials, community leaders, etc. on strategies to prevent interpersonal violence and improve services to youth;
  • Conduct holistic assessments during the intake process and serve on the multidisciplinary team for KAVI’s UCS Firearm Youth Intervention Program
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker License and Certification
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with those impacted by violence
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to take constructive criticism and work well with supervision
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations;
  • Punctual & extremely reliable
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Must be able to present self and program professionally;
  • Bilingual strongly is helpful (Spanish, French Creole)
  • Flexibility to work some evenings & weekends
  • Applicants with personal experience in overcoming violence/ violence-related injuries/ the criminal justice system 

Work Schedule/Location  

Hours: On-call Location: Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Street,  Brooklyn, New York
