About Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI)

KAVI is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) youth-serving organization with a mission to prevent and eliminate interpersonal violence from the lives of young people through advocacy, peer leadership, community mobilization, and social justice. 


KAVI promotes community wellness and healing by operating high-impact youth violence prevention and intervention programs in Central Brooklyn. Our programs take place in hospital-based, school, and community settings. We are a fast-paced, rapidly growing nonprofit organization. Position

The Education & Employment Navigator (EEN) will play a valuable role at KAVI to support participants and clients in identifying and connecting to the wide array of educational and workforce opportunities available in NYC and NYS. The EEN will primarily engage with clients who have experienced an intentional violent injury and their support network. In addition to having knowledge of the NYC human service ecosystem, the position requires creativity, communication and the ability to complete tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Based on client and participant intake and assessments provide information and connections to education and employment opportunities.
  • Advocate with service providers or other parties on behalf of participants.
  • Work cooperatively with other agencies to coordinate services by learning eligibility and admissions requirements
  • Responsible for providing needed information and resources to clients via phone, text, chat, email and/or face to face conversations
  • Collect client information and demographics as defined by KAVI programs to accurately assess eligibility of resources
  • Identify possible solutions to client's complex case scenarios
  • Engage with agency partners to support the needs of clients
  • Provide accurate information, assessments, referrals and advocacy to all clients
  • Provide exceptional customer service to clients and identify and recommend improvements for quicker and more efficient customer service delivery
  • Follow up with select clients on a bi-weekly basis to capture outcomes and alternative options

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with clients, staff, organizations and community leaders
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience, preferably working in a Human Services related role providing Customer Service
  • Demonstrated experience completing assignments and projects on time
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced environment and shifting gears quickly to accommodate change.
  • Ability to deal calmly, patiently and effectively with fluid situations.
  • Ability to express empathy when working and communicating with diverse client populations
  • Demonstrated experience handling client's requests and addressing potential obstacles by being resourceful
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole in addition to English is preferred.
  • Effective organizational skills, tracking and attendance record keeping systems.
  • Time management skills and ability to meet short deadlines.
  • Word processing skills and experience working with Excel.
  • Must be able to work 20-22 hours per week including some day and evening hours. Some Saturdays required.


Compensation The starting wage for the part-time Education & Employment Navigator position is budgeted for $35-$40/hr.

Salary

$35 - $40 per hour
