ABOUT GREAT JOBS KC

Great Jobs KC (GJKC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that resides in the community, and reports to a community-based Board of Scholarship Applications Managers. Great Jobs KC through the KC Scholars scholarship program provides financial support for individuals from low- to modest-income households to complete a college degree or a job training program resulting in a family-sustaining career. The KC Scholars scholarship program awarded its first scholarship in May 2017. Beginning in 2022, Great Jobs KC broadened its programs by adding Great Jobs KC training, a tuition-free job training program, life skills workshops, and career placement programming.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE

Salary:                        Annual salary based on experience

The goals of KC Scholars Scholarship Programs are:

1)     90% scholarship program annual persistence rate.

2)     90% scholarship program participant satisfaction rate.

3)     80% scholarship program college completion rate within 5 years.

4)     80% scholarship program college graduates achieve a salary of $45K

 

The goals for the Scholarship Applications Manager are:

·        Implement checks and validations to ensure that 100% of data is accurate, complete, and configured in Salesforce, and create reports/dashboards used to make data-driven decisions.  

·        Manage the Scholarship Application process and successful awarding of College Savings Match, Traditional, and University-Sponsored by increasing the number of application submission by 15% over previous year.

·        Manage the scholarship application process and the successful awarding of Adult Learner scholarship by maintaining number of applicants from previous year.

·        Increase the number of scholarship awardees from male students by 10% compared to previous year.

·        Ensure 25% of applications are submitted at least 2 weeks prior to the application deadline.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Scholarship Applications Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire application process, ensuring effective administration, compliance, and the awarding of scholarships. This role involves coordinating with internal and external partners to facilitate access and awareness to the KC Scholarships and other financial aid opportunities, enhance outreach efforts, and maintain accurate records of scholarship activities.

 

Primary Responsibilities Include:

·        Oversee the administration and management of the scholarship application process, including the awarding of College Savings Match, Traditional, University-Sponsored, and Adult Learner scholarships.

·        Collaborate with internal staff and external partners to support students in accessing financial aid opportunities.

·        Maintain and update scholarship information, marketing materials, eligibility criteria, and application procedures.

·        Conduct application workshops to assist applicants in completing and submitting their applications within the deadline.

·        Use various communication platforms, including social media, in collaboration with internal staff and external partners, to reach a diverse pool of student applicants.

·        Prepare and distribute scholarship award notifications.

·        Ensure a fair and timely evaluation of the application and award process by conducting surveys with internal staff and external partners to collect feedback for improvements in the next cycle.

·        Collaborate with IT to create data dashboards for monitoring application submission status and generating reports for internal and external partners.

·        Ensure smooth partnership on Salesforce transition to secure data accuracy, process automation, and accurate reporting.

·        Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and program guidelines related to scholarship administration.

·        Continuously assess the effectiveness of supports and processes, making or suggesting adjustments to:

o  Keep pace with program scaling,

o  Prepare for future growth opportunities, and

o  Ensure supports provided are linked to demonstrable results and the program goal of 80% college completion.

·        Oversee the online scholarship portal and all processes related to the annual application and selection cycle, track the status of current awardees, and prepare for the next application cycle by reducing duplications and identifying areas for closer collaboration or increased communication.

·        Monitor and support data analysis and reporting related to applicants, awardees, current Scholars, and previous Scholars, ensuring staff responsiveness to requests.

·        Collect and analyze data on the demographics of scholarship applicants to identify trends and areas for improvement.

·        Develop and maintain relationships with High Schools and Postsecondary Network partners to ensure ongoing and effective communication and share data and best practices.

·        Refine, implement, and manage the community volunteer scholarship reviewer recruitment, selection, training, assignments, and scoring process.

·        Represent KC Scholars in the community, building a reputation as a respected leader in the college access and attainment space.

·        Stay informed on regional and national best practices in college scholarship applications, and consider incorporating effective strategies into KC Scholars.

·        Foster the creation of an effective team through hiring, supervision, and development, including their continuing professional development to ensure deep content knowledge and expertise.

·        Attend meetings and events as appropriate.

·        Perform other related activities and duties as assigned.


 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required, while an advanced degree is preferred.


Work Experience:

·        A minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience in complex college access and completion programs which support aspiring college students to and through college.

·        Deep knowledge of and practice in the college application process, admissions eligibility, financial aid, academic requirements, college enrollment, and college persistence – specifically for adult learners and students historically underrepresented in higher education.

·        Previous and successful experience supervising and developing staff to achieve maximum performance and efficiency and reach organizational goals.

·         Experience working in a fast-paced, goal-oriented, start-up environment.
