The Assistant Chief Pilot is responsible for assisting in overseeing the flight operations for Kamaka Air along with the Chief Pilot. They are also responsible for assisting in ensuring regulatory compliance over the flight operations and maintaining safety in all aspects of the flight operations. The Assistant Chief Pilot is also responsible for assisting in the management, training, and development of the pilot program. The Assistant Chief Pilot is a Line Captain and Company Instructor for the 208 Cessna Caravan.

Description

Flight Operations 

  • Assist in the oversight of flight operations and ensures flight operations are conducted in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations and operations specifications. 
  • Monitor and correct as necessary operational standards through quality assurance. 
  • Support in scheduling flight crews for duty and ensure crew assignments comply with applicable qualification, currency, flight time, duty time, rest, and operational requirements. 
  • Identify, anticipate, and take corrective to minimize flight delays due to scheduling operations, crew legality, or maintenance issues.  

Regulatory Compliance Management 

  • Work with the training manager and Chief Pilot to ensure flight operations records are properly maintained, including pilot training, qualification, checking, currency, duty and flight time records, and other records required by applicable regulations, Operations Specifications, and company manuals. 
  • Ensure appropriate pilot records and qualification information are maintained, including compliance with Pilot Records Database (PRD) requirements. 
  • Assist the Chief Pilot in maintaining all flight operations manuals, publications, and controlled documents at their current revisions and ensure they are published electronically within Kamaka Air's flight operations management software. 

Training and Compliance  

  • Ensure thorough testing and/or observation that individuals part of the flight operations team know and abide by the applicable portions of policies and regulations including, but not limited to, Federal Regulations and company procedures.  
  • Support the training department in leading all necessary training as required. 
  • Assist in maintaining accurate and timely documentation of flight records, incidents, and regulatory reports. 
  • Ensure that all pilots maintain valid and current certifications required by aviation authorities. 
  • Lead, brief, and coordinate with flight and ground crew to ensure all team members understand their responsibilities and safety procedures. 

Flight Planning and Preparation 

  • Oversee all pre-flight planning activities, including weather analysis, route selection, fuel planning, and cargo load verification. 
  • Coordinate with ground operations and maintenance teams to confirm the aircraft is ready for departure and meets safety standards.  
  • Ensure weight and balance are within operational limits and verify that cargo is properly loaded and secured.  
  • Operate aircraft and ground service equipment safely and always maintains a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality. 

Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Required Qualifications  

  • Be qualified to serve as Pilot in Command in Kamaka Air's operations, as applicable.  
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of the 14 CFR Parts as applicable to Kamaka Air operations.  
  • Have previous experience as a Training Captain in Part 135 or comparable commercial aviation operations.  
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications and the use of an iPad in an aviation operational environment.  
  • Possess demonstrated leadership, communication, decision-making, organizational, and personnel management skills.  

Physical Duties Requirements 

  • Ability to sit for extended periods at a desk and use a computer. 
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. 
  • Must be able to adhere to process protocol. 
  • Must be able to apply established protocols in a timely manner. 
  • Occasional travel between office locations or to off-site meetings/events. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Previous experience as an FAA authorized Check Pilot. 
  • Three years of experience in the field.   
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with other departments, leadership teams and external stakeholders. 
  • Strong attention to detail and an eye for accuracy.
