Summary: Seeking an experienced NOC Engineer to work in an exciting, fast-paced environment, monitoring and maintaining the health of client site networks running on our network management platform. This position owns the detection, triage, and resolution of network events, driving incidents to closure and escalating with diagnostic detail when deeper engineering support is required. This individual will work closely with firewalls, network switches, access points, and monitoring platforms. This individual will support both wired and wireless environments, with a heavy emphasis on wireless coverage and RF performance. This position works with other engineers and leadership to provide an exceptional customer experience, efficiently responding to and resolving network events. This individual must have hands-on experience and be ready to contribute from day one. This individual will report directly to the Network Operations Manager.
This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, and will be based in our office in North Charleston, SC 29406 with opportunities for hybrid work after onboarding. This individual is part of an on-call rotation which may include occasional evening and weekend work.
Key duties:
- Monitor client site networks and identify performance degradation before it reaches end users.
- Triage and resolve network alerts and tickets across firewalls, switches, access points, and circuits.
- Own all wireless escalations, configuring wireless coverage based on industry best practices.
- Own first response for network incidents and outages, driving each event to resolution.
- Prioritize the network event queue by client impact and severity.
- Investigate root cause on recurring alerts and recommend permanent corrective action.
- Tune monitoring thresholds and alerting rules to eliminate noise and surface real failures.
- Build and maintain runbooks for common network events and escalation paths.
- Document network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for knowledge sharing and future reference.
- Coordinate with client contacts, carriers, and vendors during service-affecting outages.
- Track and report on uptime, response time, and resolution metrics.
- Perform scheduled maintenance including firmware upgrades, patch management, and configuration backups.
- Escalate to network engineering with complete diagnostic detail and reproduction steps.
- Collaborate with the software engineering team on monitoring and alerting improvements within our custom network automation software.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Strong understanding of networking principles and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, AAA, Radius, SNMP, CoA, etc.).
- Working knowledge of WLAN principles and industry-standard RF configurations.
- Experience with network hardware and software including Cisco, Juniper, Meraki, WatchGuard, etc.
- Proficiency in network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Demonstrated incident response experience in a live production environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Prior experience in an on-call or shift-based support environment is preferred.
- Industry certifications are a plus, including CCNA, CCNP, CMNA, CompTIA Network+, etc.
