The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) will play a key role in overseeing the psychiatric care of adolescents enrolled in Inward Healthcare’s PHP and IOP programs. The PMHNP will conduct initial psychiatric evaluations upon admission, provide weekly follow-up appointments for medication management and symptom review, and actively participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings. This individual will collaborate closely with the Clinical Director, therapists, and broader treatment team to support patient safety, clinical progress, and continuity of care while helping deliver compassionate, evidence-based behavioral healthcare to adolescents and their families.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

Position Overview

Inward Healthcare is seeking a compassionate, collaborative, and clinically strong Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to oversee and support the psychiatric care of adolescents enrolled in our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).

The PMHNP will play an integral role within our multidisciplinary treatment team by conducting psychiatric evaluations, providing ongoing medication management, collaborating closely with therapists and leadership, and helping ensure safe, high-quality clinical care for our patients and families. This role requires strong communication skills, sound clinical judgment, and a passion for working with adolescents and their support systems.

Key Responsibilities

Psychiatric Assessment & Medication Management

  • Conduct comprehensive initial psychiatric evaluations for newly admitted patients.
  • Develop and implement individualized psychiatric treatment plans.
  • Provide ongoing weekly psychiatric follow-up appointments, including medication management and symptom monitoring.
  • Assess patient progress, response to medications, and overall clinical presentation throughout treatment.
  • Monitor for medication side effects, safety concerns, and changes in mental status.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation.

Collaboration & Treatment Team Participation

  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and contribute psychiatric insight to treatment planning and clinical decision-making.
  • Collaborate closely with the Clinical Director, therapists, operations staff, and other treatment team members to support patient safety, stabilization, and progress.
  • Provide clinical recommendations and guidance regarding psychiatric concerns, medication interventions, and patient risk management.
  • Support continuity of care with outside providers, primary care physicians, psychiatrists, schools, and referral partners as appropriate.

Parent & Family Communication

  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding the psychiatric care and progress of their child.
  • Educate families on prescribed medications, including intended benefits, risks, side effects, and the importance of medication adherence within the broader treatment plan.
  • Help parents better understand their child’s mental health symptoms, diagnoses, and psychiatric treatment recommendations.
  • Collaborate with families in a compassionate and professional manner to support treatment engagement and positive outcomes.

Clinical Environment & Culture

  • Help foster a safe, supportive, and patient-centered treatment environment.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable state, federal, and organizational regulations and standards.
  • Uphold the mission, values, and clinical standards of Inward Healthcare.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of patient care and organizational operations.

Qualifications

  • Active and unrestricted PMHNP license in the State of California.
  • DEA license and furnishing number in good standing.
  • Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
  • Experience working with adolescents and families strongly preferred.
  • Experience in PHP, IOP, outpatient, residential, or acute psychiatric settings preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Commitment to ethical, compassionate, and evidence-based patient care.

Schedule & Setting

  • Independent contractor 4 hours per week to start
  • Services are provided onsite at our Long Beach, California location.
  • Some remote will be considered

Salary

$100 - $120 per hour
