The Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) Immigration Legal Assistant supports the Immigration Legal Clinic Specialist

The Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) Immigration Legal Assistant supports the Immigration Legal Clinic Specialist. This position is part-time, in-office, 24 hours per week.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Assist with maintaining clinic Outlook calendar, including scheduling appointments and following up with clients
  • Schedule and complete new client intakes following outlined procedures
  • Assist potential clients with inquiries and provide legal referrals accordingly
  • Manage and update client files, legal documents and data
  • Assist with trips to the post office and handle mail accordingly
  • Assist with scanning, reviewing and emailing client files and documents
  • Maintain accurate and current electronic legal forms and documents in SharePoint and legal software
  • Assist with translations and interpretations for Spanish-speaking clients, as needed
  • Assist with Refugee State Office monthly data entries, complete case reviews, and maintain accurate and updated notes to be in compliance with grant reporting
  • Update excel spreadsheets to ensure accurate grant reporting
  • Assist with training volunteers and interns, as needed
  • Perform other tasks as needed, including occasionally assist with promotion and outreach for the programs and events offered by International House
  • Perform other tasks as needed, including help prepare and file cases with USCIS under the direction of a staff attorney/accredited representative when needed; Open, draft and assemble files when asked by representatives


Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Three years of experience in an administrative assistant role
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft 360 (including Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams)
  • Experience recording data accurately
  • Lived experience relevant to the immigrant population, preferred
  • Spanish fluency required (oral and written)

Must be able to:

  • Sit for long periods of time while performing repetitive motions/computer work
  • Apply physical mobility, including reaching, lifting, holding, pushing and pulling, carrying, bending, climbing stairs, kneeling, arm and leg extension.
  • Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Maneuver within the office area.


Work Environment:

Most of the work is done in an office environment. The office is a shared space; therefore, employees must be able to work in a noisy environment and anticipate interruptions.

Salary

$18 - $21 per hour
