The Director of Revenue & Development is responsible for overseeing all aspects of IA&A's resource generation. This includes a portfolio of earned revenue divisions primarily focused on the marketing and sales of global traveling exhibitions and venue rental and sponsorships of IA&A’s Hillyer Galleries. The philanthropic oversight includes fundraising, grants, corporate sponsorships, memberships, and special events.
The Director of Revenue & Development works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Operating Officer, the heads of each implementing division, and the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategies to increase and diversify IA&A's revenue sources and achieve its financial goals.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive revenue plan with goals that align with IA&A's mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities.
- Oversee traveling exhibition marketing team and ensure sales targets are met.
- Work closely with the Director of Traveling Exhibitions to ensure the pipeline of projects, pricing, and other information is shared properly and openly between sales and implementation teams.
- Identify and solicit opportunities for corporate or private funding to underwrite traveling exhibitions and Hillyer gallery activities.
- Build a culture of philanthropy within an organization traditionally reliant on earned revenue. Over time, cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with current and potential donors, funders, sponsors, members, and partners.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of grant proposals and reports to foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other funding sources; including direct grant writing and oversight of grant writing personnel.
- Manage the planning and execution of fundraising events and campaigns, including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, and capital campaigns.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase membership retention and acquisition, as well as member engagement and satisfaction.
- Develop Board giving policy and work closely with the CEO to ensure 100% Board Giving.
- Monitor and analyze revenue performance and trends, and prepare regular reports and forecasts for internal and external stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain policies, procedures, systems, and best practices for revenue management and compliance.
- Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate revenue staff, and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field; master's degree or equivalent preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in revenue generation for non-profit organizations; experience in arts and culture sector a plus
- Experience in direct marketing strategies to external clients, including solicitation, cultivation, and closing
- Experience working in an organization with earned revenue streams and/or sales preferred
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement diversified revenue strategies that align with organizational goals and mission, with an ability to align earned revenue and philanthropic revenue strategies.
- Proven track record of securing significant gifts from individuals, foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other sources
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Experience managing a sales and marketing team - including mentorship, metrics setting, and lead-tracking
- High level of creativity, initiative, integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail
- Proficient in Google Suite; experience with CRM software (e.g., Salesforce) preferred
- Knowledge of international arts and cultural issues; passion for IA&A's mission
Management
The Director currently oversees 2.5 FT marketers in the traveling exhibition department, and will have the ability to hire 1 FT development associate, in addition to IA&A’s current external development consultant.

IA&A offers a competitive salary and performance incentive structure commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a hybrid position. The incumbent is expected to work in the Washington, DC headquarters on a regular basis, with an in-office presence at least 2-3 days a week. Occasional travel and evening/weekend obligations will be expected.
