About the Role

Carriers make pricing and product decisions on data they have to be able to trust, and all of it rides on infrastructure someone has to own outright. That's this role. You'll own the cloud environments, data stores, networks, and deployment pipelines behind the Insuraviews platform, reporting directly to the CTO.

The work is senior and hands-on. You'll architect and build our cloud footprint across GCP, AWS, and/or Azure, manage it as code in Terraform, administer the PostgreSQL databases the platform runs on, and build the CI/CD pipelines the engineering team ships through. You'll own monitoring, incident response, and disaster recovery — the parts of the job where being right matters to customers in a regulated industry. You'll also design the infrastructure that supports AI and machine learning workloads on the platform, and use AI-assisted tooling in your own work where it makes what you ship better.

You'll do well here if you'd rather own systems end to end than hold a slice of them, and if you're the person who wants to be on point when something breaks. You'll set cloud and infrastructure standards for the engineering organization, document the tradeoffs behind them, and mentor developers and data engineers on cloud and infrastructure-as-code practices. As the platform and team grow, you may help define, hire for, and lead a small cloud and platform team.

Compensation

●     Base Salary (see below) plus Commission - approximately 40/60 base to variable. Commission is uncapped.

Responsibilities

1. Cloud Architecture & Infrastructure

●      Own the design, build-out, and ongoing evolution of Insuraviews’ cloud environments across GCP, AWS, and/or Azure, ensuring infrastructure is secure, scalable, and cost-effective.

●      Define and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform, establishing reusable modules, version control practices, and review standards for all infrastructure changes.

●      Design and manage containerized workloads and their orchestration, including image standards, registries, runtime configuration, and scaling policies.

●      Architect and administer cloud networking, including VPCs, subnets, routing, load balancing, DNS, private connectivity, and firewall rules that support both performance and least-privilege access.

●      Right-size and monitor cloud resources, surfacing clear tradeoffs between cost, performance, and reliability to the CTO.

2. Database Administration

●      Administer, tune, and secure the platform’s relational databases (PostgreSQL), including backups, replication, failover, version upgrades, and query performance tuning.

●      Establish and enforce database access controls, retention policies, and disaster recovery procedures with tested, documented recovery objectives.

●      Optimize data storage and retrieval processes for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.

●      Partner with the Data Engineer on database schemas and data warehousing solutions that support analytical and reporting needs.

3. Reliability, Security & Operations

●      Build and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting across cloud infrastructure so issues are detected and escalated before customers feel them.

●      Own infrastructure incident response: lead diagnosis, coordinate resolution, and run blameless post-incident reviews that produce concrete follow-up actions.

●      Implement cloud security best practices, including identity and access management, secrets management, encryption in transit and at rest, and vulnerability remediation.

●      Support the security and compliance posture carrier customers expect in a regulated industry, including evidence gathering for customer security reviews and audits.

●      Define, document, and regularly test business continuity and disaster recovery plans for the platform.

4. CI/CD & Developer Enablement

●      Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that let the engineering team ship safely and frequently, with automated testing, environment promotion, and reliable rollback paths.

●      Provide self-service tooling, environments, and documentation that reduce friction for developers and data engineers.

●      Automate operational tasks and continuously improve infrastructure workflows to increase efficiency and reduce manual effort.

●      Participate in code reviews, providing and receiving constructive technical feedback.

5. Technical Leadership & Collaboration

●      Set cloud and infrastructure standards for the engineering organization, and document the decisions and tradeoffs behind them.

●      Mentor developers and data engineers on cloud, container, and infrastructure-as-code practices, raising the team’s overall infrastructure fluency.

●      As the platform and team grow, help define, hire for, and potentially lead a small cloud and platform team.

●      Communicate progress, blockers, and technical tradeoffs clearly and proactively with teammates and cross-functional partners.

●      Document infrastructure processes, environment topology, and system architecture to support team knowledge sharing.

6. AI Enablement & Innovation

●      Leverage AI-assisted tools as part of day-to-day workflow to accelerate infrastructure development, troubleshooting, and documentation, and to improve the quality of what you ship.

●      Design and operate the cloud infrastructure required to support AI and machine learning workloads on the platform, including compute, storage, and access patterns for model development and inference.

●      Apply AI-driven monitoring, anomaly detection, and operational tooling where it measurably improves reliability or reduces manual toil.

●      Evaluate emerging cloud and AI capabilities and recommend adoption where they advance platform capability, security, or cost efficiency.

Required Qualifications

●      5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure, DevOps, or site reliability engineering, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior-level role.

●      Hands-on production experience with at least one major cloud platform (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and working familiarity with a second.

●      Strong proficiency with Terraform and an infrastructure-as-code approach to managing environments.

●      Experience administering production relational databases (PostgreSQL), including backup and recovery, replication, and performance tuning.

●      Practical experience with containers and container orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, Cloud Run).

●      Solid cloud networking fundamentals, including VPC design, subnetting, routing, load balancing, DNS, and firewall/security group configuration.

●      Working knowledge of cloud security and identity and access management practices.

●      Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.

●      Comfortable using AI tools to improve the quality or efficiency of day-to-day work, with curiosity about emerging capabilities in their domain.

●      Experience provisioning or supporting cloud infrastructure for AI or machine learning workloads, or a demonstrated ability to come up to speed on it quickly.

●      Strong problem-solving skills with a systematic approach to debugging and technical investigation.

●      Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

●      Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Nice to Have

●      Relevant cloud or infrastructure certification (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert).

●      Experience with configuration management or GitOps tooling (e.g., Ansible, ArgoCD, Flux).

●      Experience with observability platforms (e.g., Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, Cloud Monitoring).

●      Experience supporting SOC 2 or similar compliance and audit efforts.

●      Experience with data warehousing platforms (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift).

●      Experience in a B2B SaaS environment with a data-intensive product.

●      Exposure to regulated industries (insurance, finance, healthcare) where data accuracy and compliance are critical.

●      Familiarity with data pipeline architecture or working alongside data engineering teams.

●      Experience working in a startup or high-growth environment.

●      Experience with issue tracking tools (e.g., Linear, Jira).
