About the Role 

We are seeking a highly motivated graduate or PhD-level intern with hands-on experience in AI chatbot development, natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning, particularly in healthcare or behavioral science domains. 

In this role, you will contribute to building the foundation of a cutting-edge AI-powered health coach using over a decade of structured and unstructured data from real-world health coaching interactions. This work will be critical in helping simulate evidence-based, context-aware conversations that can scale personalized health interventions across clinical and community settings. 

Responsibilities 

- Analyze and pre-process health coaching data (text, time series, and behavioral logs) collected over 10+ years. 

- Design, fine-tune, and deploy conversational agents using LLMs, reinforcement learning, and intent classification techniques. 

- Develop workflows for empathetic, accurate, and engaging coaching dialogues tailored to chronic condition management. 

- Collaborate with product, clinical, and development teams to align AI behavior with coaching frameworks and guidelines. 

- Test and validate bot performance in sandbox environments; support integration into third-party platforms. 

- Maintain thorough documentation of model training processes, decisions, and results. 

Required Qualifications 

- Enrolled or recently completed in a PhD or Master’s program in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, NLP, or a related field. 

- Experience with conversational AI systems in healthcare or wellness. 

- Proficiency in Python; experience with Hugging Face, LangChain, OpenAI APIs, etc. 

- Familiarity with dialogue evaluation techniques. 

- Understanding of or willingness to learn HIPAA-compliant data handling. 

- Interest in health, wellness, or digital therapeutics. 

Preferred Experience 

- Knowledge of behavior change frameworks (e.g., motivational interviewing, CBT, CLEAR model). 

- Experience with FHIR standards, EMR systems, or health IT. 

- Exposure to multi-modal AI integrating biosignals or patient-reported data. 

- Prior research or internship experience in health tech or academic labs.
