Position Overview

The Director of Construction is responsible for overseeing all aspects of vertical construction for Hurley’s projects. This role is engaged in the early stages of development on projects for the purpose of planning, feasibility, pricing and driving efficient constructability. The Director will direct and drive processes with their team, general contractors, and consultants. Their primary responsibility is executing on the vertical construction of projects within the defined scope, schedule, and budget.

Essential Job Duties

·      Develop and lead a team of internal construction managers, assistants and coordinators to successfully deliver complex construction projects. Establish priorities and accountability for the team.

·      Act on behalf of the company to lead onsite construction teams, including interfacing with the General Contractor on each project.

  • Establish overall project construction schedules and processes and regularly report on progress.

·      Participate in pricing and development of budgets through all phases of development and manage the final execution of the project to remain within budget, and regularly report on “budget vs actual.”

·      Conduct design review of proposed developments from schematic design to construction drawings, working closely with our internal team and consultants on the constructability, costs and value engineering items.

·      Establish regularly scheduled meetings with the contractors and design team to review all aspects of the document sets and projects including: shop drawing review and approval, equipment BOMs, budgets and lead times, staffing and manpower needs, quality and performance issues, changes to scope or budget, value engineering opportunities, document completeness and more.

·      Ensure all costs and risk updates are communicated and incorporated into the overall project reporting.

·      Obtain final sign off and close out for completed projects and prepare and submit final project reports.

·      Evaluate all tasks and risks from project bidding to completion and identify and implement improvements to the process.

·      Initiate regular site activity inspections, investigations and assessments.

·      Review each project together with the design team for opportunities to meet corporate sustainability and smart technology targets

·      Assist the Executive Team in the implementation of construction team best practices.

·      Knowledgeable about the market, competition best practices, and construction material costs

·      Experience supervising, training and mentoring staff

·      Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and collaboratively problem solve

Key Qualifications

·      Minimum of 10 years of senior construction project management or direct construction project management experience or equivalent combination of experience and education in construction project management

·      Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, or similar fields with an emphasis on real estate development and construction

·      Significant experience in mixed-use construction with preference for management of apartment, hotel, and retail construction projects

·      Demonstrated capacity to maintain high energy and tenacity to lead project concepts to completion, possessing the long-term goal orientation and integrity necessary for successful project completions

·      Proficient in the use of current software programs and related construction technology, spreadsheets, and general computing
