Hometown Organizing Project / Hometown Action (HOP/HA) seeks a part-time Lead Organizer to work 20-25 hours per week to drive our ongoing Gender Justice work statewide. This is a mid-level organizing role ideal for candidates with 1-2 years of organizing experience. The Gender Justice organizer is responsible for building a base of small town and rural trans and queer people in key geographic regions through direct community outreach, the coordination of regular community gatherings, and building teams to establish Gender Justice Community Protection teams around the state. The anticipated start date is February 2025.
The Gender Justice Lead Organizer is responsible for carrying out the organization’s Gender Justice work using a power building framework. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, a self-starter, and enjoy meeting and connecting with diverse groups of people. This position is a part-time, hourly, hybrid remote/on-site position with opportunities for advancement to full-time with benefits within 6 to 12 months based on performance. Travel to the organization’s headquarters in Montevallo, AL is required approximately 1-2 times per month. Must be available for in-person, on-site work at the office or in community locations (primarily in central, east, west, and north Alabama) 3-4 days a week.
Candidates must be comfortable working independently in remote areas and have the ability to build genuine relationships across differences of race, class, gender, geography, and political ideology. While the role does require the ability to work with a high level of independence, the organizer must also be able to work well inside a team. This position will work closely with all members of staff as part of the Organizing Team and will report to the Organizing Director.

Note: This job posting is for a Lead Organizer, a mid-level organizing position. Applicants who do not fully meet all of the criteria above may be considered for a Community Organizer position at a lower payscale. More experienced candidates may be considered for a Senior Organizer position at a higher payscale.
