💼 Your Role: Accounting Manager

As our Accounting Manager, you will be the cornerstone of our finance operations. This role starts as a department of one—you’ll roll up your sleeves and take ownership of our day-to-day accounting, forecasting, and financial reporting functions. But you won’t be alone—you’ll be surrounded by a supportive leadership team and a clear growth plan to build out a dynamic finance department as we scale.

🔍 Your Key Responsibilities—What You’ll Own & Elevate

🔹 Build and Lead from the Ground Up

  • Manage all daily accounting functions—from bookkeeping to budgeting—with autonomy and ownership
  • Develop internal workflows and processes that support long-term scale and efficiency
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify future finance team needs and help shape future hiring


🔹 Drive a Smooth & Accurate Month-End Close

  • Perform and manage all month-end close activities including journal entries, bank reconciliations, accruals, and account reviews
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies and ensure timely, accurate close cycles
  • Prepare and maintain documentation for all close procedures to support growth


🔹 Forecast the Future

  • Create and maintain rolling financial forecasts that support program growth and strategic goals
  • Analyze historical trends and real-time data to project revenue, expenses, and cash flow
  • Present clear insights to leadership to guide informed decision-making


🔹 Own AP/AR with Clarity and Consistency

  • Process all accounts payable and receivable transactions, including vendor invoicing and payments
  • Monitor outstanding receivables and manage collections process
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure timely reconciliations


🔹 Maintain & Safeguard the General Ledger

  • Oversee all aspects of the general ledger and chart of accounts
  • Enter and review transactions for accuracy and proper classification
  • Perform regular balance sheet account reconciliations and adjustments


🔹 Ensure Regulatory Compliance

  • Keep up to date with local, state, and federal financial regulations
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and strong internal controls
  • Support tax filing, reporting requirements, and other compliance processes


🔹 Shape Financial Policies & Best Practices


  • Work closely with the Head of Operations to create, document, and refine financial policies
  • Evaluate current processes and implement improvements for accuracy and efficiency
  • Help establish the systems and tools that will support future team success


🔹 Lead Audits & External Financial Relationships

  • Prepare for and manage financial audits, including collecting documents and responding to inquiries
  • Serve as the primary contact for external vendors, auditors, and accountants
  • Ensure financial transparency and partnership-readiness at all times


🔹 Produce Reports That Drive Strategy

  • Generate timely financial statements, cash flow reports, and program-level performance summaries
  • Turn complex data into simple, actionable insights for the executive team
  • Track key financial metrics and proactively identify trends or risks

Your Superpowers:

  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience (5+ years accounting, 2+ in a leadership or autonomous role)
  • Strong command of QuickBooks, Excel, and financial reporting tools
  • Deep understanding of GAAP, compliance, and forecasting best practices
  • Experience building systems, processes, or teams in a growing organization
  • Passion for youth development, physical activity, and mission-driven work
