Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Utility Solar Technician with hands-on experience working with utility-scale or industrial solar systems, specifically including TMEIC inverter systems. This role is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and commissioning solar power equipment to ensure maximum system performance and uptime.
The ideal candidate has strong electrical troubleshooting skills, experience working in high-voltage environments, and the ability to work independently in field conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on industrial and utility-scale solar PV systems
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, communication, and performance issues
- Install, maintain, and repair TMEIC inverters and associated balance-of-system components
- Conduct inverter commissioning, firmware updates, and operational testing
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Perform testing using multimeters, insulation resistance testers, IV curve tracers, and thermal imaging equipment
- Monitor system performance and identify production losses or equipment failures
- Support SCADA, DAS, and communication troubleshooting as needed
- Complete maintenance reports, service documentation, and compliance records accurately
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety standards
- Assist with substation, transformer, switchgear, and medium-voltage troubleshooting when required
- Coordinate with operations teams, OEM support, and site management to resolve technical issues efficiently
Required Qualifications
- Direct experience working with TMEIC solar inverter systems. Required to have the TMEIC certificate.
- Minimum [2–5] years of experience in industrial or utility-scale solar operations and maintenance
- Strong understanding of AC/DC electrical systems and photovoltaic operations
- Experience troubleshooting medium-voltage equipment preferred
- Ability to read and interpret electrical one-lines and schematics
- Knowledge of SCADA and communication systems
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
- NABCEP certification is a plus
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed
Technical Skills
- TMEIC inverter troubleshooting and maintenance, with TMEIC certificate.
- High-voltage switching and lockout/tagout procedures
- Electrical testing and diagnostics
- Preventative maintenance planning
- SCADA and communications troubleshooting
- Microsoft Office and digital reporting systems
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, and bend for extended periods
- Must be comfortable working in industrial and energized environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS)
- Experience with substations, transformers, and relay protection systems
- Additional inverter OEM experience (SMA, Power Electronics, Sungrow, etc.)
- Electrical license or journeyman certification
