ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Certified Pool Operator – Tasks and Duties:
Water Chemistry & Quality:
- Regularly test and adjust pool chemicals to maintain proper water balance, including disinfection, pH, and other parameters to ensure water is safe and sanitary.
Equipment Maintenance:
- Inspect, operate, and perform preventive maintenance on pool equipment, including filters, pumps, heaters, and controllers.
- Perform minor repairs on pool equipment and fixtures.
- Respond promptly to emergencies related to equipment failure or water contamination.
Cleaning & Sanitation:
- Brush, vacuum, and clean pool surfaces, tiles, deck areas, and gutters to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and prevent algae growth.
- Clean pool filters, skimmer baskets, deck drains, and related components.
- Manage inventory of pool chemicals and related supplies.
Health & Safety Compliance:
- Ensure all pools and aquatics facilities comply with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.
- Assist with inspections and corrective actions as required.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of chemical levels, maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and inventory.
Certified Boiler Operator – Tasks and Duties:
- Ensure optimal and continuous operation of Helena Family YMCA boiler and related mechanical systems through routine inspections, monitoring, and adjustments.
- Perform scheduled maintenance including cleaning, filter replacements, lubrication, and system testing.
- Identify malfunctioning components and perform or coordinate necessary repairs or replacements.
- Monitor safety systems, identify hazards, and suspend operations when necessary to protect staff and members.
- Obtain replacement parts and assist with system upgrades while remaining within budget.
- Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, maintenance routines, repairs, and system performance.
- Stay current with all applicable safety codes, regulations, and licensing requirements.
General Maintenance Responsibilities (Added):
- Perform routine facility maintenance tasks including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs.
- Inspect building systems, pool areas, mechanical rooms, and common spaces to identify maintenance needs or safety concerns.
- Assist with preventative maintenance programs to extend the life of facility equipment and infrastructure.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or inspections as directed.
- Support facility setup, shutdown, and seasonal maintenance activities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in mechanical and storage areas.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) License
- Certified Boiler Operator License
REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of pool systems, water chemistry, boiler operations, and safe chemical handling.
Problem-Solving:
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and respond effectively to facility-related problems.
Attention to Detail:
- Ability to recognize early signs of equipment, water quality, or facility issues.
Communication Skills:
- Ability to interact professionally with staff, members, vendors, and the public regarding maintenance concerns and solutions.
Must live within 30 miles of the Helena Family YMCA.
