Student Pastor


Position Title: Student Pastor

Reports to: Lead Pastor

Department: Ministerial Staff 

Status: Full Time, Exempt, 40-60 hours per week

Location: Heights Baptist Church Alvin, Texas

Manages: Support Staff and Key Volunteers

Pay: $60,000+ (Based on Education and Experience)

Benefits: 2% Retirement Match, Phone reimbursement, Gym Membership and Counseling. Up to 4 weeks vacation based on years of experience. Professional Development Budget.

He is respectable in the community, fosters unity in the church's vision, and does not partake in quarrelsome conversations. Their character is respectable, and they lead their family and serve them as their priority. They are spiritually mature and can teach, practice evangelism, and value discipleship.


Church Expectations

He reports to the Lead Pastor and manages staff and volunteers in the Student Ministry. The Student Pastor will meet quarterly with the Lead Pastor or his designee to discuss their self-reviews and annually to discuss budget needs and set goals and objectives for the following calendar year. It is preferred that our Student Pastor has a seminary degree, but it is not required; some formal training and 3+ years of similar experience are required.

Ministerial Expectations 

Our full-time, salary-exempt Student Pastor will serve on the Ministerial Care Team and, by calling and gifting, may serve in the church's teaching ministry. This pastoral position needs to have a strict level of confidentiality among church leadership.


Ministerial Care Team

Our ministerial staff make up our care team. They may serve as the minister on call, but their primary responsibility is to shepherd, care for, and visit those serving in their ministry. Ministerial staff are expected to attend all funerals on campus during normal office hours and may be asked to attend other opportunities to care for our church. 


Teaching Ministry

The church's teaching ministry is the responsibility of all ministerial staff members under the direction of the Lead Pastor. Together, we uphold biblical doctrines and theology across each ministry area. Those who serve well may be called to provide teaching for Life and Equip Groups, Weekend Services, Mid-Week Activities, Special Events, or Celebration of Life services.


Ministry Expectations

The listed time requirements and minimum standards are subject to change upon written notice during quarterly and/or annual performance reviews to better reflect the congregation's changing needs.


Teaching 

  • Serve as the primary teacher in regular student gatherings through expository teaching or mentoring other gifted teachers. 
  • Pulpit supply as needed
  • Equip Class Instructor (Optional)


Ministry Planning 

  • Cast vision with objectives and goals in the Student Ministry every 90 days.
  • Plan and organize key Student Ministry events.
  • Communicate with parents weekly. 
  • Participate in quarterly professional development days.
  • Plan and coordinate yearly events and expenses through the annual budget under the guidance of the Pastor of Administration.


Outreach 

  • Lead and equip students to be Christ’s witnesses locally, regionally, and globally. 
  • Lead local outreach efforts to win more people to Christ.
  • Plan and organize at least one outreach event per year for students.


Volunteer/Leadership Development 

  • Work with Lead Pastor to advance the mission and vision of Heights Baptist Church.
  • Recruit, train, and deploy key volunteers.
  • Create, update, and communicate volunteer job descriptions in the Serve Handbook.


Community Engagement 

  • Provide vision and leadership for community events.
  • Plug in and serve in your sphere of influence in the local community.


Intentional Discipleship 

  • Intentionally disciple two people a year one-on-one using our church’s discipleship strategy.
  • Develop two new key leaders each calendar year serving directly in your ministry.


Pastoral Care 

  • Shepherd, counsel, and care for those entrusted under your leadership.
  • Hospital visitation is for those serving in the Student Ministry.
  • Serve as our pastor on call once a month.

Key Volunteers

Each ministry has key volunteers who serve as unpaid lay leaders throughout your ministry. They lead other volunteers or play critical roles in our organization. The Student Ministry should recruit, manage, train, and update the job descriptions of these positions in the Serve Initiative Handbook as needed.


Annual Events

The Student Pastor is expected to aid or lead in organizing and participating in the following events. The lead pastor may only approve of the student pastor's decision to miss these events.
