Compensation: $45.00 Per Billable Hours | Fee for Service

Position Summary

The Mental Health Specialist provides direct, non-clinical mental health support services to individuals and families under the supervision of licensed behavioral health professionals. This role focuses on skill-building, psychoeducation, care coordination, and support services that promote emotional well-being, stability, and recovery. The Mental Health Specialist plays a vital role in supporting clients’ treatment goals while delivering compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care.

Key Responsibilities

Client Support & Engagement

• Provide direct support services to individuals experiencing mental health challenges
• Assist clients with coping skills, emotional regulation, and daily functioning strategies
• Support clients in achieving individualized service or treatment goals

Skill-Building & Psychoeducation

• Deliver structured skill-building interventions (e.g., stress management, communication, problem-solving)
• Provide psychoeducation related to mental health, wellness, and recovery
• Reinforce strategies developed by licensed clinicians or care teams

Care Coordination & Case Support

• Collaborate with case managers, clinicians, and program staff to support coordinated care
• Assist with referrals, appointment reminders, and follow-up support
• Advocate for client needs while promoting self-sufficiency

Documentation & Compliance

• Complete timely, accurate, and compliant documentation of services provided
• Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and organizational policies
• Participate in supervision, team meetings, and required trainings

Crisis Support

• Recognize signs of emotional distress or crisis and respond according to protocol
• De-escalate situations using approved techniques and seek clinical support as needed
• Follow safety and emergency procedures

Qualifications

• Masters degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Behavioral Science, or a related field
• Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in mental health, social services, or community-based support roles (internships count)
• Ability to work under the supervision of licensed behavioral health professionals

Preferred

• Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness, trauma histories, or co-occurring disorders
• Training in trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, or crisis intervention
• Knowledge of community resources and service systems
