Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Jewelry Production Associate provides flexible, hands-on support across HAVERHILL's production departments, including inventory, quality control, chain assembly, washing, plating, fulfillment, and general operations support. HAVERHILL makes every piece to order, by hand, in Warren, Rhode Island, and ships within days of the order being placed. The work is therefore high-mix and personalized rather than repetitive: no two consecutive orders are necessarily alike, and each one carries a customer commitment date.

The position is designed to be cross-functional. Each Jewelry Production Associate is anchored to a specific department, assigned by the Production Manager and subject to change as business needs require, and is trained and ready to move where the floor needs capacity that day. Within each department, the position performs Level 1 and Level 2 operations.

The associate is accountable for completing each assigned operation to the specification on the work order, to HAVERHILL's quality standard, at the pace the daily production schedule requires. Success depends on reliability, accuracy against written specifications, careful handling of small high-value product, willingness to rotate across departments as assigned, and the judgment to stop and raise a question rather than pass along a piece that is not right. The role suits someone who prefers variety over routine and is willing to be moved where the day requires.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities below apply in every assignment. The department sections that follow describe the work performed when assigned to or supporting that department.

In every assignment

  • Work from the written work order, specification sheet, or physical reference sample for every order; do not substitute judgment for the specification.
  • Confirm the piece matches the work order before passing it to the next operation — metal type and color, size or length, gemstone or birthstone selection, and personalization character for character.
  • Inspect your own work at each operation and correct or escalate before the piece moves on.
  • Stop and escalate any discrepancy, defect, or missing component to the supervisor rather than completing the operation.
  • Report a job that will miss its committed date as soon as it is known, not at the end of the day.
  • Keep work order status current in the production system as pieces move between stations.
  • Handle work-in-process so pieces are not scratched, bent, or contaminated between operations.
  • Follow all safety procedures for the assigned station, including lockout/tagout, machine guarding, chemical handling, ventilation, and required protective equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Cross-train on additional departments and operations as assigned, and support newer associates once qualified on an operation.

Quality Control

  • Inspect incoming components and completed pieces against the work order specification.
  • Verify solder joints, closed jump rings, seated stones, symmetry, and surface condition.
  • Verify engraving, initials, names, and dates character for character.
  • Route failed pieces to rework with the defect identified, and log defects as required.

Inventory

  • Receive, count, and put away castings, findings, chain, gemstones, and packaging components.
  • Issue material to work orders and return unused material.
  • Kit components and documentation so an order is complete before work begins.
  • Perform cycle counts and assist with physical inventory.
  • Maintain bin organization, labeling, and location accuracy.

Chain Assembly

  • Cut and size chain to the specified length.
  • Attach clasps, jump rings, charms, and pendants.
  • Close and secure jump rings and connections to standard.
  • Assemble multi-component necklaces and bracelets per specification.

Washing

  • Run ultrasonic and steam cleaning cycles per procedure.
  • Dry and handle pieces without introducing scratches or contamination.
  • Confirm pieces are clean and presentable before the next operation.

Plating

  • Prepare, rack, and run pieces through plating cycles per procedure.
  • Handle plating chemicals using required protective equipment and ventilation.
  • Rinse, dry, and inspect for even coverage and correct color.

Fulfillment

  • Perform final inspection against the order before packing.
  • Package, present, and label orders to HAVERHILL's standard, including gift presentation and inserts.
  • Stage completed orders for carrier pickup and confirm shipment records.

Operations support

  • Organize and declutter production and storage areas.
  • Restock consumables and supplies at stations.
  • Remove trash and recycling, and support general housekeeping.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness to rotate across departments and cross-train on new operations as assigned.
  • Ability to read and work accurately from written specifications.
  • Care and accuracy handling small, high-value product.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient for chain assembly and small-component handling.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a bilingual (English/Spanish) production team.
  • Reliable attendance consistent with a daily ship commitment.
  • Ability to work on-site in Warren, Rhode Island on the assigned shift.

Preferred

  • One or more years in light manufacturing, production support, warehouse or inventory, fulfillment, or comparable hands-on production work.
  • Experience in jewelry, watchmaking, dental laboratory, electronics assembly, or another fine-detail environment.
  • Experience with chain assembly, plating, or ultrasonic cleaning.
