Duties:

  • Schedule and maintain activities and fun for children in line with the current curriculum
  • Maintain orderliness in the classroom and on the playground
  • Have your classroom fully prepared and ready by 8:30 AM daily (materials, books, copies, etc.). Assist with advanced preparation and clean up.
  • Greet your parents and students as they arrive in the classroom
  • Know the number of children in your care, either on the playground or in the classroom, always
  • Give full attention to the class and be responsible for the safety and physical well being of the children, never leaving them unsupervised. Interact with the children.
  • Request materials needed for projects and communicate to the Assistant Teacher/Director when supplies are depleted.
  • Serve and clean up snack. Prepare water, clean cart and counters, put water and remaining snack away

Curriculum

  • Supplement teaching with activities and special events, which enhance student learning.
  • Implement daily and weekly learning experiences for the children to allow for the aims of the preschool to be met.
  • Prepare weekly lesson plans, classroom newsletters, information board
  • Obtain and/or prepare all materials needed to carry out the daily lesson plans
  • Plan and implement with co-workers and/or parent volunteers indoor and outdoor physical fitness activities

Parents

  • Participate in activities designed for parents such as parent conferences, open house, and other special programs
  • Keep the director informed of parent difficulties by written memo and/or verbal communication
  • Coordinate class parties with party parents

Records

  • Help develop and Keep ongoing assessment records of each child in your class.
  • Take care of the child with the “boo boo” and “ache” and write the incident in the medical complaint treatment log book. Anything written in the log must be communicated to the parent- if a phone call was made, note that, and if a written note was given then a copy must be kept for your records. All incidents must be communicated to the director
  • Record significant incidents or experiences observed with the children and report them to authorities as necessary

Staff

  • Attend devotions, staff meetings, workshops, and conferences
  • Set up conference times with the director in case of staff difficulties
  • Present yourself as a Christian professional in attitude, dress, and action at all times
  • Help train any new staff person assigned to you
  • Be responsible for keeping the assistant teacher informed as to the daily requirements, needs, and well-being of the children
  • Read professional materials and attend yearly ACSI Preschool Convention, and other classes provided to maintain an understanding of preschool procedures, students, curriculum, and legal requirements
  • Follow policies established by the Administration of the preschool
  • Cooperate with other employees to keep a happy, wholesome atmosphere

Physical Qualifications:

  • Teachers at Harrison Street Academy must be able to observe, hear, and respond to the needs of children.
  • Employees must have the ability to lift children up to fifty pounds from the floor to waist high, ten to fifteen times a day; to crouch to a child’s height and maintain eye contact at a child’s level; to sit on the floor; to stand tall enough to reach children on playground equipment;
  • Ability to determine and communicate cognitive, social, and physical needs of children orally and in writing in the English language.
  • Must be able to quickly respond and react to emergencies or conflicts that might occur in a classroom, on a playground, and in common areas.
  • Persons must feel confident that they can care for up to 10 children alone and can handle stress in an active environment on a daily basis. ( We try hard to make sure its as least stressful as possible, but you have to know you can handle what comes!)
  • Employees must communicate well with other staff.


Salary

$18 - $25 per hour
