Description

Harbor Homes of Martha’s Vineyard is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and mission-driven Director of Administration to join our leadership team.


Harbor Homes works to ensure that everyone on Martha’s Vineyard has access to safe shelter, essential resources, and the support needed to build a thriving, self-sufficient life. We provide a continuum of housing, shelter, outreach, and supportive services for Islanders experiencing or at risk of homelessness.


Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Administration will play a central role in ensuring that the people, systems, finances, technology, and administrative infrastructure behind our programs operate effectively.


What You'll Do

The Director of Administration will:

  • Manage day-to-day organizational and office operations.
  • Help oversee budgeting, financial reporting, invoicing, internal controls, and vendor relationships.
  • Lead important organizational projects and improve internal systems and workflows.
  • Manage and strengthen HR administration, employee records, benefits, payroll support, onboarding, and compliance.
  • Help implement and manage technology, HRIS, CRM, and data-management systems.
  • Support grant administration, reporting, documentation, and audit readiness.
  • Coordinate administrative aspects of volunteer engagement and training.
  • Support leadership operations, meetings, materials, and organizational planning.
  • Help build a collaborative, inclusive, efficient, and mission-focused workplace.

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who enjoys making organizations work well; someone who can see both the big picture and the details required to get things done.


Ideal candidates will bring:

  • At least three years of progressive experience in nonprofit, human services, operations, administration, or management.
  • Strong organizational, project-management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with budgets, financial processes, office systems, or administrative operations.
  • Familiarity with HR practices, payroll, employee benefits, and Massachusetts employment requirements.
  • Strong technology skills and experience with tools such as QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, HRIS, CRM, or similar systems.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently and collaboratively.
  • Discretion and professionalism in handling confidential information.

A bachelor's degree in business administration, nonprofit management, public administration, or a related field is preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered.

The Opportunity


This is an opportunity to take on a significant leadership role in a growing community-based organization addressing one of Martha's Vineyard's most pressing challenges. The Director of Administration will work closely with the Executive Director and staff to build the organizational capacity needed to strengthen our programs and expand our impact.


The position is primarily office-based and administrative. Hybrid or remote work may be considered based on organizational needs and with the Executive Director's approval.
