At Hands-On House, we believe all children should have access to the play-based learning our museum offers. That’s why we created Discovery to Go, a community education program that brings our interactive approach to learning to schools and community organizations across Lancaster County and beyond! As an Outreach Instructor you will be part of a cohort of instructors trained to deliver one or more of our beloved, interactive workshops to students from pre-K to third grade.

Since opening its doors in 1987, the Hands-On House Children’s Museum of Lancaster has been fostering the intellectual, social, and emotional development of young children for nearly 40 years. Through professionally curated exhibits and educational programs, Hands-On House strives to empower young children and families to connect, create, and learn through immersive, independent, and purposeful play. The museum offers educator-curated experiences, including exhibits, classes, camps, and outreach programs for young children and their families.

How It Works 

Once trained, you will be added to our instructor roster, and you will be asked about your availability. When schools book a workshop, we will contact you, confirm your availability, and schedule you to deliver the workshop.


Once scheduled, you will be responsible for program delivery. This includes the set-up of learning stations, presentation of learning content in a group setting, guiding student inquiry and discovery, and transporting materials to and from the school in our museum van.   


What We Are Looking For 

We are hiring multiple instructors for this position and welcome candidates who enjoy working with children, understanding how children learn, and are dedicated to making learning fun. While background and certification in early childhood education are preferred, we are looking for the following minimum qualifications

  • Experience teaching or working with groups of young children in early childhood, elementary, or similar settings
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills 
  • Ability to deliver weekday workshops (as your schedule allows), primarily during school hours between January and June  
  • Comfortable being scheduled an average of 8-18 hours a week based on program demand 
  • Completion of Child Abuse Clearances and FBI fingerprinting (required)


Salary

$16 - $20 per hour
