About Hands-on House Children's Museum of Lancaster

Since opening its doors in 1987, the Hands-On House Children’s Museum of Lancaster has been fostering the intellectual, social, and emotional development of young children for nearly 40 years. Through professionally curated exhibits and educational programs, Hands-On House strives to empower young children and families to connect, create, and learn through immersive, independent, and purposeful play. The museum offers educator-curated experiences, including exhibits, classes, camps, and outreach programs for young children and their families.

Description

Anticipated Schedule:

Two weekdays and one weekend day required, 8:30am-4:30pm


Key Responsibilities:

Functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain an active and engaging presence with children and families in exhibit areas, encouraging exploration and learning through play.
  • Provide information and assistance to visitors, enhancing their understanding and enjoyment of exhibits.
  • Monitor exhibit areas to ensure safety and cleanliness, performing light cleaning and resetting of spaces as needed.
  • Support the implementation of educational programs and special events on the museum floor and in the garden.
  • Assist in the orientation and guidance of field trip groups, ensuring a positive experience for all participants.
  • Report maintenance issues or visitor concerns to supervisors promptly.
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions to enhance engagement techniques and exhibit knowledge.
  • Collaborate with the Guest Services Specialists, Director of Museum Experience, and museum educators to ensure cohesive visitor experiences.
  • Maintain a positive museum environment by enforcing museum policies and procedures, communicating any potential or active problems to the appropriate staff, and providing basic first aid if needed.
  • Occasional extended hours for birthday parties and special events.


Qualifications:

  • Current students in education, child development, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience working with children in educational or recreational settings preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor required.
  • Ability to be on one’s feet for extended periods of time and perform light physical tasks.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Interest in Lancaster County’s cultural heritage and a passion for interactive learning is a plus.

Salary

$13 - $15 per hour
