Orthodontic Assistant

About Great Whites Pediatric Dentistry

Great Whites Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics is an independent, woman-owned pediatric dental and orthodontic practice in Huntington, NY. Since 2009, we have cared for children, teens, and families in a setting built around compassion, patience, clinical quality, and a high level of service. We are not a corporate chain or DSO. Our owner, Dr. Dawn, leads a clinical team that includes three pediatric dental associates and two orthodontist associates who share a commitment to relationship-based care — a team that gets to know our patients and families over time. She believes a respectful, well-supported team is essential to excellent care, which means we give people the time to do things right, rather than pushing people through a high-volume model. We look for team members who are kind, dependable, calm with children, respectful with parents, good teammates, and eager to keep learning. If you've worked in a high-pressure, numbers-first setting and want something different, you'll feel it here: meaningful work, clear standards, real respect, and a team that treats you as an important contributor to the patient experience.

Description

About Us

We're an independent, family-owned pediatric dental and orthodontic practice in Huntington, caring for kids and teens here since 2009. We're not a corporate chain or a DSO, and we're not trying to run an assembly line. Our owner-doctors work right alongside the team, and we care about giving children and parents time, attention, and a calm experience.

We're looking for a warm, organized assistant with high standards who genuinely enjoys working with children. We treat our assistants as essential — not interchangeable.

Who You Are

  • Compassionate and patient, especially with anxious kids and their parents
  • A real team player — you notice what needs doing and jump in
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and steady under pressure
  • Comfortable with technology and eager to learn
  • Experienced in dental or orthodontic assisting, or a motivated assistant we can train into ortho (see "Growing With Us")

What You'll Do

You'll perform orthodontic and dental assisting duties, including:

  • Greeting, seating, and preparing patients with warmth and professionalism
  • Setting up, breaking down, and sterilizing treatment rooms to a high standard
  • Providing chairside support and helping keep the doctor's flow moving
  • Assisting with orthodontic records — photos, panoramic and cephalometric X-rays, and iTero scans — consistent with your training, supervision, and applicable New York rules
  • Supporting orthodontic procedures

Growing With Us

Orthodontic experience is preferred, but we'll train the right dental assistant who is organized, reliable, good with children, and eager to learn. A New York State Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) license or limited permit is preferred, but not required. We're glad to support the right person toward RDA licensure.

Schedule

Full-time, four weekdays plus one Saturday a month:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday (required)
  • One Saturday (half day) out of every four (required) — a limited, predictable weekend commitment

Your scheduled hours are guaranteed. We don't cut hours on slow days. When you commit to your schedule, we commit to yours.

Office hours: Mon–Tue 8:40 AM–6:00 PM · Wed–Thu 8:40 AM–6:30 PM · Fri 8:40 AM–5:00 PM · Sat 7:40 AM–1:00 PM

Compensation

We pay for real orthodontic skill, and we're glad to train the right person who's new to it. Starting pay is based on experience and qualifications:

  • Dental assistant, new to ortho but trainable, $21–$24
  • Some orthodontic assisting experience, $24–$28
  • Experienced orthodontic assistant / strong RDA, $28–$32

A current NYS RDA license or limited permit, strong records and imaging experience, cross-training, and reliability with the required schedule may place a candidate toward the top of the posted range.

Benefits (Full-Time)

We believe benefits should be specific and real — not vague promises:

  • 401(k) profit-sharing plan — in recent years, the practice has contributed approximately 5% of eligible salary. You don't need to contribute your own money to receive the practice's profit-sharing contribution, subject to plan terms.
  • Health insurance: we pay 50% of the individual premium for full-time employees
  • Free cleanings and braces for employees and eligible family members, plus in-house dental care we can perform ourselves (specialty care such as periodontics, endodontics, and oral surgery isn't covered)
  • Paid time off: 2 weeks for full-time employees, rising to 3 weeks after 5 years
  • Paid sick time and paid bereavement leave
  • Paid holidays (when the holiday falls on your scheduled workday): New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas

Why You'll Want to Work Here

  • Independent and family-owned — no corporate quotas or assembly-line model
  • Owner-doctors who work right alongside the team every day
  • Modern technology: iTero, digital records, pano, and ceph imaging
  • A genuine path to grow your skills and credentials (including RDA support)
  • A warm, organized, kid-centered team that helps each other through the day

Training and Support

You won't be thrown in. New team members start by working alongside an experienced assistant, then gradually take on records, chairside support, sterilization, and the technology we use day to day. We use check-ins during your first 90 days so you always know what you're learning, what you're ready to handle, and where you still have backup.

And no one works alone here. Busy mornings, anxious kids, and tight turnarounds are handled as a team — when you need a hand, you ask for it, and that's exactly how it should work.

Our Hiring Process

We hire carefully because fit matters both ways. It starts with a short video conversation. Candidates who move forward are invited for a paid working interview so they can meet the team, see how the day really runs, and decide for themselves whether this is the right place.
