We are currently seeking an experienced, engaging college counselor to join our team. College counselors report to the Director of Counseling and are responsible for managing their meeting schedule with clients. Pending client availability, it is expected that College Counselors have the capacity to work with a minimum of 7 students per graduating class. Counselors are asked to designate availability by graduation class and commit to guiding their clients through high school graduation. While we strive to provide consistent service across our team, there is a high level of autonomy in this role. Position Description

This is a part-time position with excellent opportunities for growth, including full-time management roles. Your hours will depend on your client load and the scope of client work we receive. Most counseling sessions are held remotely, but there is an expectation of in-person meeting availability if a client is within your travel radius. You should expect to work during after-school and weekend hours to accommodate students' academic and extracurricular schedules. Your duties will include brainstorming and editing essays, developing college lists, meeting with students and parents, reviewing transcripts, writing session reports, suggesting extracurricular and summer activities, and other projects as assigned, such as webinars and presentations.

Job Requirements

- 3-5 years of experience as a college counselor and/or university admissions officer

- Ability to counsel at least 7 clients per grade (9th-12th) annually

- Ability to manage students and parents through the entire college application process

- Familiarity with US colleges and universities, including requirements, programs, the "feel" of the schools, size, and location, as well as familiarity with niche opportunities and programs

- Strong familiarity with application platforms, including but not limited to the Common Application, UC Application, and Cal State Apply

- Solid grasp of what universities are looking for in application components, such as extracurriculars, personal statements/essays, and interviews

- Creative ability to help students brainstorm, outline, write, and edit dozens of college essays

- Excellent grammar and writing skills

- Quick response times and strong organizational/scheduling skills

- Ability to proactively problem-solve and manage client concerns with ease, professionalism, and promptness

- Extremely reliable, friendly, and confident

- A passion for supporting students on their college journey

- Availability after school and on weekends

- Personal computer/laptop and reliable internet service for virtual sessions

- Reliable transportation for in-person sessions

- Willingness to display a professional photo and bio on the company website

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:

- More than 5 years of experience as a high school college counselor, independent college counselor, and/or top 100 university admissions officer

- Familiarity with scholarships and/or financial aid processes and opportunities

- Areas of specialization, such as visual and performing arts portfolio building, athletic recruitment, international universities, boarding schools, highly competitive undergraduate business programs, STEM programs, and graduate school admissions (particularly Business, Law, Medicine, etc.)

- A great sense of humor and the ability to connect authentically with teenagers
