Systems engineer for a Managed Services Provider

Responsible for managing and maintaining multiple IT environments of different sizes along with the team, the Utah Sr. Systems Engineer should be highly knowledgeable in modern IT infrastructure while having strong communication and team-working abilities. The role is remote, but must be working in Salt Lake City area to provide onsite support, project, and emergency services to clients in Utah, Salt Lake, and Davis Counties.

 

The ideal candidate has experience with multiple different types, size, and complexity of IT environments. The nature of the MSP requires the ability to adapt quickly between varying client needs and technology solutions.  They have ease in working with a team in a remote collaboration setting, coordinate well with their manager, and are comfortable communicating directly with users and shareholders remotely and in-person. 

 

Key traits include knowing how to prioritize and organize responsibilities, ability to manage time efficiently, ability to intelligently approach complex tasks and utilize team support resources, ease in learning and using multiple systems, a friendly open-minded nature that works well with others, and casual professionalism.

 

Modern technical know-how is a must. Technologies include Dell servers and storage hardware, Windows Server OS, HyperV/vSphere, PowerChute/PowerStore, Windows workstation OS, Azure, O365/M365, Fortinet Networking, cloud first and local backups, network and security monitoring. Current Microsoft and NSE certifications are preferred and on-going training is required. 

 

The Sr. Systems Engineer will primarily maintain and manage existing environments, ensure alerts and failover processes are in place, handle tier 2 support ticket and work with account management to keep environments up-to-date. They are first responders in outages or other emergencies and will spend time getting to know clients personally. They will also assist in architecting and deploying major upgrades and new environments both physical and virtual and onboarding new Utah customers.  

 

Example Responsibilities:

  • Maintain virtualized server environments. Setup, monitor, and maintain alerts on host and VM status indicators.
  • Manage data storage, permissions, and resource access across WANs. Setup, monitor, and maintain alerts on data storage status indicators.
  • Configure and maintain backups of server environments and data storage. Setup, monitor, and maintain alerts on backup status indicators.
  • Assist in creating LAN and WAN environments with shared resources and failover policies. Setup, monitor, and maintain alerts on WAN status indicators.
  • Configure and maintain UPS on critical infrastructure. Setup, monitor, and maintain alerts on UPS status indicators.
  • Respond to alerts or outages, attend onsite, contact service providers, communicate with client, communicate with team.
  • Review and test disaster recovery and incident management scenarios, adjust environments and create documentation 
  • Assist with VoIP installations, provide tier 2 VoIP support and emergency onsite response when needed.
  • Assist with licensing documentation, upgrade and renewal tracking
  • Perform OS and firmware upgrades 
  • Track time and manage tickets using ticket management system
  • Create and update documentation related to environments and tasks
  • Work with new and existing customers to onboard their information and update environments to meet best practice baselines
  • Support help desk team when needed on support questions and escalations
  • Work with account management and service management to ensure best practices are being audited against and remediated. 


Salary

$75,000 - $100,000 per year
