Job Position Summary

The After-School Program Director is responsible for the overall management, supervision, and successful operation of the Grace To Prosper In Purpose Inc. after-school program. The Program Director ensures that programming is safe, inclusive, engaging, and aligned with GPP's mission, organizational standards, school-site expectations, and all applicable NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and New York State School-Age Child Care requirements.

The Program Director provides leadership and oversight for daily program operations, staff supervision and development, student engagement, family communication, enrollment and attendance, enrichment programming, compliance, partnerships, events, and budget management.

The Program Director will work closely with GPP leadership, school-site administration, program staff, students, families, community partners, and DYCD stakeholders to ensure the program operates effectively and provides a high-quality after-school experience for every participant.

Roles & Responsibilities

SAFETY & COMPLIANCE

  • Ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of all students participating in the after-school program.
  • Ensure program operations comply with applicable NYC DYCD requirements, New York State School-Age Child Care regulations, NYC DOE requirements, school-site policies, and GPP procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate student supervision and ensure smooth transitions from the regular school day into after-school programming.
  • Ensure accidents, incidents, emergencies, and other required documentation are properly reported and maintained.
  • Conduct regular safety checks of program spaces, activities, materials, and procedures.
  • Promote an environment that is respectful, inclusive, supportive, and free from discrimination, harassment, and unsafe behavior.

  • Ensure programming reflects GPP's commitment to youth development, education, leadership, career exploration, enrichment, and community engagement.
  • Model and promote GPP's organizational values in interactions with students, families, staff, school partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Work closely with GPP leadership to implement organizational goals and program priorities.

DYCD & PARTNER AGENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • Ensure all applicable DYCD programmatic and contractual requirements are met.
  • Maintain accurate enrollment, attendance, participation, student records, and required program documentation.
  • Monitor program performance against established benchmarks and deliverables.
  • Ensure required information is accurately entered and maintained within applicable DYCD administrative systems.
  • Support compliance with NYC DOE and school-partner requirements.
  • Prepare for and participate in site visits, monitoring, audits, and program reviews as required.
  • Ensure program documentation is complete, organized, and readily accessible.

STAFF SUPERVISION & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Recruit, onboard, supervise, coach, and evaluate program staff in collaboration with GPP leadership.
  • Ensure staff understand their roles, responsibilities, schedules, program expectations, and student safety procedures.
  • Coordinate staff training and professional development in areas including positive youth development, behavior management, classroom management, inclusion, social-emotional learning, youth engagement, and effective instructional practices.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and check-ins.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and corrective guidance when necessary.
  • Foster a collaborative, professional, and supportive team culture.

STUDENT RECRUITMENT, ENROLLMENT & RETENTION

  • Coordinate student recruitment and outreach efforts in partnership with the school and community.
  • Support enrollment efforts to maintain program capacity and meet contractual requirements.
  • Monitor daily attendance and participation rates.
  • Develop strategies to improve student engagement, attendance, and retention.
  • Build positive relationships with students and create opportunities for youth voice and leadership.
  • Monitor student participation and progress and communicate concerns to appropriate staff and stakeholders.

PROGRAMMATIC OVERSIGHT

  • Oversee the daily implementation of academic support, homework assistance, enrichment, recreation, leadership, and youth-development programming.
  • Ensure programming is engaging, age-appropriate, culturally responsive, and aligned with student interests and developmental needs.
  • Ensure each program area has appropriate materials, supplies, space, staffing, and resources.
  • Work with Activity Specialists and Group Leaders to maintain consistent program quality.
  • Monitor student behavior and implement positive behavior-management strategies.
  • Review programming regularly and make adjustments based on student needs, participation, feedback, and program outcomes.
  • Ensure program schedules are implemented effectively and that transitions between activities are organized and safe.

SCHOOL & COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with school administration, teachers, families, community organizations, and program partners.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for day-to-day after-school program communication.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to address operational, student, staffing, and programmatic needs.
  • Develop community partnerships that strengthen enrichment opportunities, resources, career exposure, mentorship, and student experiences.
  • Represent GPP professionally within the school and surrounding community.

FAMILY & STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

  • Maintain consistent and professional communication with families and caregivers.
  • Support family engagement activities, meetings, workshops, and program events.
  • Respond to questions, concerns, and feedback in a timely and professional manner.
  • Create opportunities for families and community stakeholders to understand and participate in the program.
  • Ensure families are informed of important program schedules, policies, events, and student opportunities.

EVENTS & SPECIAL PROGRAMMING

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute program events in collaboration with GPP leadership, school partners, staff, students, families, and community organizations.
  • Support family engagement nights, student showcases, community events, career exploration activities, educational workshops, field trips, and other program initiatives.
  • Ensure all events are appropriately staffed, organized, documented, and operated in accordance with safety and program requirements.
  • Coordinate logistics, materials, schedules, partners, and communications for program events.

BUDGET & RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

  • Monitor program expenditures and ensure spending remains aligned with the approved program budget.
  • Work with GPP leadership and administrative staff to monitor staffing, supplies, materials, equipment, activities, and other program-related expenses.
  • Ensure purchases are necessary, appropriate, properly documented, and aligned with organizational and contractual requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage community partnerships and in-kind resources to enhance programming.

COMMUNICATION & DOCUMENTATION

  • Maintain consistent, professional communication with GPP leadership, staff, students, families, school partners, and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate program records, schedules, staff documentation, attendance information, incident reports, and other required records.
  • Provide regular updates to GPP leadership regarding program operations, successes, challenges, student engagement, staffing, and compliance.
  • Ensure important program information is communicated effectively across departments and stakeholders.

INTERNAL SUPPORT & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Participate in GPP leadership meetings, staff meetings, professional development, program planning sessions, and organizational events.
  • Collaborate with GPP's administrative, education and technology, global health/logistics, media and design, and community outreach functions when appropriate.
  • Contribute to organizational planning, program evaluation, continuous improvement, and strategic initiatives.
  • Remain informed about relevant DYCD, NYC DOE, and New York State requirements affecting after-school programming.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities necessary for the successful operation and continued development of the program.

Position Expectations

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, organization, communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills. The Program Director must be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced school-based environment while maintaining a strong focus on student safety, program quality, compliance, staff development, and positive youth outcomes.

The Program Director is expected to serve as a visible and dependable leader who creates a culture where students feel safe, supported, challenged, and empowered to participate and succeed.


This is a Full time In Person.

Salary

$50,000 - $70,000 per year
