The Grant Writer delivers comprehensive pre-award consulting and grant writing services for select Grants Works clients. In addition to performing the standard duties of a grant writer, this role leads in identifying federal and other grant funding opportunities, serving as an in-house federal grant funding subject matter expert, and managing grant writing and grant research projects. This position requires research, strong writing, data analysis, project management, and budget development skills. The Grant Writer should also have experience with program design to co-develop program goals and objectives that lead to clear, measurable outcomes.

Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

 

Client Services

•      Manage up to 6 full-service and/or advisory clients, providing end-to-end pre-award management consulting and related services.

•      Prepare and lead meetings with clients to ensure project progress.

•      Identify and resolve any issues or challenges in the provision of pre-award services.

•      Conduct initial assessment to ensure client readiness to pursue federal and other government grants.

•      Develop and maintain clients’ library of resources and documents to ensure readiness for grant writing projects.

•      Maintain calendar of new grant funding opportunities and continuation and renewal applications.

 

Proposal Development and Technical Writing

•      Research, collect, and synthesize data to support grant proposals and applications.

•      Compose high-quality proposals, applications, and supporting documents in response to solicitations.

•      Lead grant proposal development and submission.

•      Prepare and organize materials for proposals.

•      Ensure completion of error-free, well-formatted, and timely grant applications

•      Serve as an in-house grant writer and oversee contractual grant writers.

•      Draft proposals, letters of inquiry, grant application narratives, continuation application reports and program reports for assigned clients.

•      Collaborate with assigned clients’ program and finance staff to develop a budget and budget narrative that aligns with the proposed program / project.

 

 

Stakeholder Engagement

·       Support clients’ efforts to engage and retain collaborative partnerships.

·       Serve as a point-of-contact for clients’ proposed subrecipients.

·       Conduct risk assessment of proposed subrecipients.

 

Grant Research Reports

·       Partner with existing grant researcher to manage grant research projects.

·       Compose executive summary and other written components of each grant research report.

·       Ensure delivery of error-free, well-formatted, and timely grant research reports.

 

Strategic Planning

·       Develop and implement strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the company’s service delivery process. 

·       Stay informed about trends and changes in the grant writing landscape to advise company leadership on ways to enhance services and service delivery. 

·       Contribute to the development and/or revisions of company policies and procedures related to pre-award consulting services. 

 

Quality Assurance

·       Ensure written components are checked for accuracy and are error-free.

·       Support company quality assurance efforts and ensure accuracy and clarity through thorough reviews of consulting reports, slide decks, and templates. 

·       Implement quality control measures to minimize errors and enhance the overall quality of work produced by Grants Works staff. 

·       Review all proposals to ensure compliance with funder guidelines and regulations, including eligibility, submission, and formatting requirements.

·       Ensure accuracy and consistency of information.

·       Proofread and edit all proposal components.

·       Submit proposals in adherence to established timelines and track submission status.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

·        Minimum bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

·       5+ years of progressive experience in grant writing and documented grant success rate.

·       Strong background and experience in federal grant funding and writing.

·       Ability to create and modify grant applications.

·       Exceptional communication and collaboration skills and a proven track record of working effectively with a variety of stakeholders.

·       Proficiency with tools and applications including MS Office Suite (OneDrive, Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Google Workspace, Asana, Zoom, and Calendly.

·       Exceptional client service, problem solving, analytical and conceptual skills.

·       Willingness to work effectively and harmoniously in a virtual work environment.

·       Demonstrated ability to take initiative and learn new skills.

·       Excellent communication skills (written and oral).

Physical Demands and Work Environment

·       This position may require occasional travel to meet with clients or attend conferences and workshops. 

·       Primarily remote with some travel (as listed above).
