Golden Hour Designs is seeking a Retail General Manager to lead the day-to-day operations, team, and customer experience of our flagship retail store in Oak Park, Sacramento. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for creating an organized, welcoming, and high-performing retail environment while ensuring our team, products, and operational systems are set up for success. The Retail General Manager will oversee retail operations from staffing and scheduling through inventory, merchandising, customer experience, and store standards. This role also serves as the primary People Operations lead for the retail team, managing hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, payroll coordination, and offboarding in partnership with the Owner. Reporting to the Owner and collaborating closely with Production, Commerce, Programs & Events, Marketing, Customer Service, and Leadership teams, this position requires a strong retail leader who can balance people management with operational execution, think proactively, solve problems independently, and maintain the creative spirit and customer experience that make Golden Hour Designs unique.

Core Responsibilities

People Operations & Team Leadership | 35%


Own the day-to-day employee experience and leadership of the retail team.


  • Lead hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance reviews, coaching, and offboarding.
  • Manage employee questions, attendance, performance, and accountability.
  • Review timecards and coordinate payroll.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels based on business needs.
  • Build a positive, collaborative, and accountable team culture.


Retail Operations & Customer Experience | 35%


Own the daily operation and overall health of the retail store.


  • Lead daily store operations and serve as Manager on Duty.
  • Maintain high standards for customer service, merchandising, cleanliness, organization, and store presentation.
  • Monitor sales, labor, and operational performance.
  • Ensure retail procedures, checklists, and systems are consistently followed and improved.
  • Handle customer concerns and operational issues with professionalism and good judgment.
  • Support Charm Bar operations, promotions, events, and seasonal initiatives.


Inventory & Product Operations | 20%


Ensure the right products are available, organized, and presented to brand standards.


  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment needs.
  • Oversee receiving, inventory accuracy, product organization, and seasonal transitions.
  • Partner with Production and Commerce on purchasing, product launches, and inventory planning.
  • Ensure products are accurately priced, merchandised, and presented in-store.


Cross-Functional Leadership & Administration | 10%


Keep retail aligned with the broader needs and priorities of the business.


  • Communicate retail priorities, challenges, and opportunities to the Owner and leadership team.
  • Collaborate with Production, Commerce, Marketing, Customer Service, and Programs & Events.
  • Support company-wide initiatives, markets, and special projects.
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and the overall customer experience.


Requirements:

  • 3+ years of retail management experience, ideally in a customer-focused specialty retail environment.
  • Experience leading, hiring, training, and coaching a team.
  • Experience with scheduling, labor management, payroll/timekeeping, and employee performance.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Confident decision-maker who can work independently and hold others accountable.
  • Comfortable balancing people leadership with hands-on operational work.
  • Experience with Shopify POS, Etsy, Faire and Google Workspace.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for creativity, self-expression, and creating memorable customer experiences.

$22 - $28 per hour
