Description: Reporting directly to the Head of School, the Director of Marketing + Communications serves as the school's chief storyteller, brand steward, and communications strategist. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director develops and executes an integrated marketing and communications strategy that advances enrollment, strengthens community engagement, supports fundraising initiatives, and elevates the visibility and reputation of the school.


This individual collaborates closely with school leadership, faculty, staff, families, alumni, and community partners to ensure that all communications reflect the mission, values, and distinctive educational experience of Glen Urquhart School. This is a full-time, year-round position with benefits.


Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


Strategic Communications + Brand Leadership (15%)

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aligned with the school's strategic priorities.
  • Serve as steward of the GUS brand, ensuring consistency across all communications, publications, digital platforms, and marketing materials.
  • Advise school leadership on messaging, positioning, crisis communications, and institutional storytelling.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen awareness, reputation, and visibility among key audiences.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for earned media coverage and public relations initiatives.
  • Coordinate press releases, media inquiries, and publicity efforts.


Content Creation + Storytelling (35%)

  • Lead the creation of compelling content across print, digital, email, social media, photography, and video platforms.
  • Tell the story of GUS through authentic and engaging narratives that highlight student learning, faculty expertise, and community life.
  • Produce and manage key school publications, including newsletters, annual reports, campaign communications, and institutional announcements.
  • Maintain an active presence in the life of the school to capture stories, events, and everyday moments.


Enrollment Marketing + Admissions Support (20%)

  • Partner closely with the Admission Office to develop and execute enrollment marketing strategies.
  • Create and manage campaigns designed to increase awareness, inquiries, event attendance, and applications.
  • Support admission events, open houses, and outreach initiatives through promotional materials, communications, and advertising.
  • Analyze enrollment marketing performance and recommend strategies for improvement.


Digital Marketing + Website Management (15%)

  • Oversee the school's website, ensuring content remains current, engaging, and aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Manage the school's digital marketing efforts, including search, social media, email marketing, and online advertising.
  • Monitor and report on website traffic, engagement, and campaign performance metrics.
  • Identify opportunities to improve user experience and digital engagement.


Advancement + Community Engagement (10%)

  • Collaborate with the Advancement Office to support fundraising campaigns, donor communications, alumni engagement, and stewardship efforts.
  • Partner with auxiliary and program leaders to promote events, programs, and community initiatives.
  • Develop communications that strengthen relationships with current families, alumni, grandparents, and friends of the school.


Research, Analytics + Budget Management (5%)

  • Conduct market research and analyze enrollment, communications, and engagement data.
  • Track and report key performance indicators related to marketing and communications efforts.
  • Manage marketing and communications budgets and vendor relationships.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and recommend adjustments based on results.

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or related fields.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Strong visual communication skills and experience with graphic design tools like Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience managing websites, social media platforms, email marketing, and digital advertising.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically while also executing projects independently.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience using data to inform decision-making.
  • Excellent project management and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in independent schools, education, nonprofit organizations, or mission-driven institutions.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and related communications tools.

Salary

$85,000 - $110,000 per year
