Description: Glen Urquhart School’s Director of Finance oversees the business operations of the school and keeps the financial stability of the institution as their primary goal. Reporting directly to the Head of School, the director must be able to work collaboratively with an administrative team and the finance committee of the board of trustees, as well as assist faculty, staff, and parents with questions about the financial aspects of their relationship to the school.

Description

Qualifications: This position requires a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field and 5-10 years of relevant experience, preferably in an independent school or non-profit setting. The successful candidate will have demonstrated skill in accounting, financial management, and operations for non-profits. A background or interest in youth programs is desirable. Experience with Quickbooks, Gusto, and Bill.com are valued.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Supporting the mission, philosophy, and core values of the School.
  • Overseeing the School’s financial operations, including cash management, accounting records, accounts payable and receivable, banking, investments, purchasing, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Preparing monthly operating statements for the Head of School, Finance Committee, and Board of Trustees.
  • Developing the annual budget in consultation with the Head of School and Finance Committee for approval by the Board of Trustees at its January meeting.
  • Coordinating the annual audit and ensuring required business registrations, regulatory filings, and financial records are accurate and current.
  • Serving as staff liaison to the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees.
  • Supporting human resources administration, including employment documentation, onboarding, payroll, benefits, time tracking, personnel records, and compensation planning.
  • Managing and implementing employee benefit programs and assisting the Head of School with salary and benefit decisions and the evaluation of support staff.
  • Administering the School’s Family Individualized Tuition program, including financial aid calculations.
  • Overseeing business operations, including IT, telecommunications, the School’s fleet and driver program, and major vendor contracts and leases.
  • Managing institutional risk and maintaining appropriate insurance coverage, including property, liability, and directors and officers insurance.
  • Supervising the part-time Administrative Coordinator who supports Finance Office responsibilities.
  • Representing the School in relevant regional, state, and national associations.
