The Resource Coordinator is primarily responsible for facilitating career and professional opportunities for FATE alumni. This individual will also manage and coordinate coach recruitment efforts, training, and regular communication needs to ensure a streamlined Alumni Success program.

To ensure our continued success, we are seeking a Resource Coordinator.


Success in the role will include a strong ability to perform quality level work with minimal to no immediate supervisory oversight. The individual in this role must a be a self-starter, who can identify areas of opportunity and know how to critically think, and problem solve. This position will perform essential functions under minimum supervision.

Give Merit was Founded in 2011 and is the nonprofit arm of a cause-based fashion brand, Merit. The organization has worked intensively with Detroit high school students from the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA) through its program called FATE. This eight-year cohort-based program provides innovative programming blending project-based learning, character development, career introduction, and mentorship into a co-curricular experience that emphasizes the value of education and the role it plays in providing access to achieving long-term career and personal goals. Students begin the program in the 9th grade and participate through their college graduation.


One hundred percent of FATE students have graduated from high school and received acceptances to colleges/universities! Currently, approximately 150 youth are served by Give Merit's FATE HS and Alumni programs and Give Merit has awarded over $200,000 in scholarship funds.

  • Develop a deep knowledge of Merit’s/Give Merit’s history, purpose, and goals to create platforms for young people to create the future
  • Plan and execute the Alumni Summit, a professional development opportunity for FATE alumni that includes career preparedness, skills development, and a range of networking experiences with business partners
  • Cultivate and sustain business partner relationships to ensure long-term impacts to the program
  • Maintain and update the FATE Alumni Job Board to include internships and job placement opportunities for FATE alumni students
  • Provide alumni support in career planning, resume review, job placement, internship securement, and similar activities
  • Complete other duties as assigned to support an alumni’s professional experience, persistence toward graduation, student satisfaction and sense of belonging, and sustainable employment in a field of interest upon completion
  • Manage coach recruitment process, host informational session, and follow-up with coach leads
  • Lead training for coaches and provide resources to help assist coaches when speaking with alumni
  • Serve as the main point of contact for FATE Alumni Success Coaches and communicate regularly on reminders, updates, and monthly to-dos
  • Actively participate in mandatory program training, professional development, and team meetings for Alumni Program
  • Work with the Alumni Program team to maintain and revise the student support model and wraparound resources to best serve student needs while being open to changing policies and practices as needed
  • Plan, execute and/or support alumni events (workshops on a variety of topics that supplement and support the college processes
  • Attend and support all 12th grade workshops
  • Perform other duties as assigned


To qualify for this role, you must meet the following:

  • At least two years of college from an accredited institution
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, a plus
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Experience with coordinating volunteers, youth, or events, a plus
  • Passion for serving the Detroit community, especially youth
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess understanding of workforce navigation (applying for jobs, resume creation, accessing an internship, etc.)
  • Personal understanding and knowledge of demographics, challenges, and ever-changing landscape of Detroit
  • Possess an ability to work well without close supervision
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability with managing multiple tasks with time sensitive deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have a high sense of integrity and handle confidential information in a professional manner
  • Commitment to ongoing self-improvement and professional development
  • Emotionally mature and able to handle difficult and complex student situations
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with frequently changing variables
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in collaboration, conflict resolution, problem solving and decision-making
  • Ability to network, work with others, and enjoy meeting new people
  • Comfortable and confident in public speaking
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Familiarity with Google applications (Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive)
