The Program Coordinator will primarily be responsible for providing support to a variety of members on the Give Merit team, particularly FATE Program Leads. This will include program preparation, facilitation, and direct youth engagement. Success in this role will include having a clear understanding of the organization’s core values.

To ensure our continued success, we are seeking a Program Coordinator.

The workweek will include working hours of 9am to 5pm during the summer season, and during the school year the workweek will include four days per week with hours of 10:30am to 6:30pm for programmatic purposes.

Give Merit was Founded in 2011 and is the nonprofit arm of a cause-based fashion brand, Merit. The organization has worked intensively with Detroit high school students from the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA) through its FATE program. This eight-year cohort-based program provides innovative programming blending project-based learning, character development, career introduction, and mentorship into a co-curricular experience that emphasizes the value of education and the role it plays in providing access to achieving long-term career and personal goals. Students begin the program in the 9th grade and participate through their college graduation.

One hundred percent of FATE students have graduated from high school and received acceptances to colleges/universities! Currently, approximately 150 youth are served by Give Merit's FATE HS and Alumni programs and Give Merit has awarded over $200,000 in scholarship funds.

  • Develop a deep knowledge of Merit’s/Give Merit’s history, purpose, and goals to create platforms for young people to create the future
  • Effectively uphold program mission, values, and goals while supporting delivery of FATE programming
  • Support the Program Leads for all FATE cohorts in the preparation and delivery of the FATE program
  • Establish and sustain meaningful, positive relationships with students
  • Support workshop preparation, setup and execution, and clean-up, to include but not limited to, curriculum facilitation as needed, room setup and breakdown, material preparation and distribution, student engagement, and managing cohort trackers/internal data
  • Provide support on special projects related to social media CRM, events, or similar areas, as needed
  • Required to work some evenings and/or weekends in accordance with programmatic needs and/or events
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

To qualify for this role, you must meet the following:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, a plus
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Passion for serving the Detroit community, especially youth
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Extremely strong attention to details
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Familiarity with Google applications (Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive)
  • Experience with coordinating volunteers, youth, or events (preferred)
  • Required to work some evenings and weekends.
