The Girls Empowerment Middle School (GEMS) Las Vegas is an all-girls charter middle school serving 6th - 8th grade students. GEMS offers a STEM education delivered in an environment designed to foster the next generation of leaders. Our girls learn self-respect and critical thinking in challenging courses delivered in classes small enough for teachers to know their students.

 

We offer a small, community-based, all-girls schooling option for families interested in STEM education and whole-child learning. GEMS is an independent, non-profit charter corporation with its own staff, budget, and governing board of directors drawn from across the Las Vegas community.

 

Role Definition: The School Paraprofessional Support Staff position is an hourly (non-exempt) position reporting to the Principal/Head of School. The School Paraprofessional Support Staff person performs a variety of instructional activities including assisting the classroom teacher(s) in implementing a learning environment which facilitates student’s academic and social growth and development. The role also supports overall school goals and objectives as determined by the Principal.

Primary Responsibilities:

•Conduct academic assessments as directed by the Principal.

•Complete required documentation for compliance and reporting purposes.

•Provide instruction in various drills and activities using learning strategies designed to introduce, reinforce, or modify skills.

•Actively participate in professional development.

•Supervise student lunch breaks.

•Maintain high behavioral expectations for student behavior

•Enforce GEMS policies for safe and effective student learning including discipline, health, and safety policies.

•Work and assist teachers during the school day with instruction, oversight, and supervision of students.

•Facilitate field trips and other student programming as requested.

•Maintain open lines of communication with staff, parents, and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

•High school diploma or equivalent.

•Background check including fingerprints with acceptable Certificate of Clearance.

• 6 months experience working with or supervising children

• Shows commitment to the mission of our school

• Demonstrates passion for supporting at risk students in opening up to their full potential.

•Demonstrates good judgment; approachable and professional; solid problem-solving skills; self-motivated; well organized.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bilingual - English/Spanish

• Nevada Substitute Teaching license


Salary

$12 - $14 per hour
