The Take 5 Family is hiring licensed Smog Technicians!

Do you know your way around an emissions inspection and enjoy working with people? Join a fast-paced, customer-first team where drivers get quick, hassle-free service. You’ll perform state-required Smog Check inspections and handle oil changes and light maintenance. We’ll train you on all of our lube services.

Good to Know Before You Start!

• It might feel like you are studying for a test at the beginning. It’s important that all employees gain a strong knowledge of our oils and services.
• Must maneuver in and out of a shallow 3' deep pit used to position yourself safely under cars
• You will walk, stand, bend, stoop, twist, etc. for extended periods of time and perform activities involving holding, grasping, pulling and turning
• You will get in and out of vehicles frequently and work under the hood
• You may need to work in hot/cold weather conditions
• Always be alert and aware of your surroundings
• Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds

What does a Smog Technician do?

Smog Inspections

• Perform Smog Check inspections in compliance with California BAR regulations
• Connect vehicles to the inspection system and run OBD II and emissions tests
• Complete visual inspections of emissions components and functional checks such as gas cap and check engine light
• Accurately enter vehicle information and record test results
• Explain inspection results clearly to customers, including what a failed test means and next steps
• Maintain and calibrate smog equipment

Oil Changes & Maintenance

• Drain motor oil, change oil filter, grease chassis fittings
• Inspect and top off fluids
• Wash windshield and adjust tire pressure
• Replace wiper blades and air filters
• Perform coolant exchanges and transmission drain & fill services
• Assist the customer in selecting oil type and other services

Shop Operations

• Process payment for services performed
• Restock and maintain inventory levels on the floor
• Maintain shop, office, and bathroom cleanliness
