Get Sojo, Inc. Director of Finance & Controller Remote · Full time Company website

Sojo is looking for a Director of Finance & Controller to own our accounting operation and grow into the strategic side of the finance function. This is a hands-on role first: you will run the monthly close yourself, direct our offshore bookkeeping team, own inventory and landed cost across 1,000+ SKUs, and own the annual audit. Over your first year you will take on budgeting, forecasting, and business partnering, working directly with the CFO. If you are looking for a seat where the finance function is small enough that you own it and growing fast enough that it becomes something bigger, this is that seat.

About Get Sojo, Inc.

Powered by behind-the-scenes logistics and real-time inventory planning, sojo brings product sourcing, custom kitting, and nationwide delivery into one simplified system — making it easy for property managers to save time, stay stocked, and scale with ease.

Description

We are a venture-backed company selling products to vacation rental operators, at roughly $25M in revenue. We carry over a thousand SKUs, import from overseas, and ship from a warehouse north of Nashville. The books have been kept deliberately simple — one legal entity, one revenue stream, all USD, straightforward revenue recognition — and we have three clean audits behind us. Tax and multi-state sales tax are handled by outside firms.

A note on background: we care much more about how you think than about the industry on your resume. The person who held this role before you came from fund accounting and picked up the inventory side without much trouble.

What you will own

  • The monthly close, start to finish, including reconciliations and the close calendar
  • Inventory accounting and landed cost — duties, tariffs, freight, and brokerage across 1,000+ imported SKUs — and the COGS, margin, and shipping reporting the business runs on
  • Accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll — including roughly 500 payments a week processed through Fortis
  • Day-to-day direction and quality review of our outsourced bookkeeping team
  • The annual audit — the PBC list, the auditor relationship, and the schedule
  • Our Ramp implementation, consolidating payables, corporate cards, and expense reimbursement onto one platform
  • Coordination with our outside tax accountants and sales tax provider
  • Vendor spend analysis and cost forecasting to support planning

What you will grow into

Our CFO owns financial planning today and will keep owning it while you ramp. You do not need to arrive with this experience — you need to want it. Over your first year, working alongside the CFO, you will have the opportunity to take on:

  • The annual budget and rolling forecast
  • Monthly variance analysis and business partnering with department leads
  • Unit economics and pricing analysis
  • Increasing exposure to investor and board reporting alongside the CFO

What we are looking for

  • CPA, or equivalent depth demonstrated through owning external audits
  • 3+ years as a Controller or Assistant Controller, ideally at a company between $10M and $75M in revenue
  • Direct experience managing an offshore or outsourced accounting team — setting the process, reviewing the work, owning the outcome
  • You learn unfamiliar technical territory quickly. If you have not worked with inventory or landed cost before, that is genuinely fine — your predecessor came from fund accounting
  • You want to grow into planning and forecasting. You do not need to have done it before — you need to want it
  • You are comfortable being the only accountant in-house, and you like it that way
  • Clear, direct communication with people who do not work in finance
  • You use AI tools seriously in your own work — Claude or equivalent, for analysis, workflows, and drafting, not just as a novelty. We run a small finance function on purpose, and leverage is how that works

Nice to have

  • Distribution or fulfillment experience — freight, customs brokerage, duties and tariffs, and the shipping reporting that goes with them
  • You have implemented a finance system rather than only used one
  • High-volume payment processing experience, especially auto-capture. We run about 500 payments a week through Fortis
  • You have built a budget or forecast model from a blank page — welcome, but genuinely not required
  • Experience at a venture-backed company
  • Acumatica experience — it is what we run. Failing that, you have worked across several different ERPs and pick up a new one quickly
  • Based in the Tampa Bay or Nashville area. The role is fully remote and we hire the best person regardless of location, but our leadership is in Tampa Bay and our warehouse is north of Nashville, so either means more time face to face

Compensation

Base salary of $140,000 to $160,000, depending on experience, plus a 15% target bonus. Stock options are apart of the package. Remote within the United States. We benchmark compensation nationally with an adjustment for local market.

Why this role

Our finance team is the CFO and this position. There is no layer between you and the top of the function, and no queue for the work that matters. If you are a strong Controller who has never been handed the planning work because someone above you always owned it, this is the role where that changes — on a stated timeline, with the CFO teaching it directly. For the right person, this is the path to the CFO seat.

Salary

$140,000 - $160,000 per year
