Georgia Interfaith Power and Light (GIPL) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that inspires and equips communities of faith to organize, implement practical climate solutions, and advocate across Georgia on issues of climate change, environmental justice, and community resilience. An affiliate of the national Interfaith Power and Light movement, GIPL envisions a Georgia where all people can flourish in a healthy environment, a stable climate, and resilient communities.

 

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Program Associate

will be one of the primary GIPL representatives to local congregations and will be responsible for promoting and implementing environmental education modules and practical climate solutions (energy-efficiency, rooftop solar, zero-waste, etc) on-site at these local faith communities. Additionally, the Program Associate will assist with outreach efforts in metro-Atlanta to recruit congregations to get involved in the work of climate and environmental justice, and provide support for GIPL’s zero-waste and land use programs.

 

Specifically, the Program Associate will have the following RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain existing relationships with congregations, primarily through Green Team Coaching in collaboration with the rest of GIPL’s program staff
  • Serve as a representative of GIPL to the public to encourage people of faith to engage in sustainability and environmental justice initiatives within the community
  • Support and promote existing environmental education workshops while also developing additional educational curriculum
  • Deliver presentations and engage in discussions in regional faith communities, clergy gatherings, and interfaith groups about environmental justice, climate change, conservation, and the importance of utilizing renewable energy sources and sustainable practices
  • Assist with outreach efforts and strategies to recruit new congregations in metro-Atlanta to participate in GIPL programs
  • Oversee GIPL’s Four Directions Fund mini-grant fund (a seed grant for congregations to implement environmental projects)
  • Coordinate with congregations to support GIPL’s zero-waste program by conducting waste assessments, drafting sustainability policies, and facilitating zero-waste workshops
  • Collaborate with the Program Director to support and eventually manage GIPL’s new sustainable land use program
  • Assist in enrolling congregations in the suite of GIPL programs, including energy-efficiency programs, solar programs, and advocacy programs.
  • Contribute to GIPL’s online presence through developing content such as videos, interviews, blog posts, and related content creation
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director 


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree required
  • Theological training/Masters degree preferred
  • Experience working in faith communities, experience as a congregational leader, or direct experience in the non-profit sector preferred
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and attention to detail
  • Passion and enthusiasm for environmental issues, particularly climate change, air and water quality, clean energy issues, conservation, and efficiency
  • Strong communication skills, excellent writing abilities, and public speaking skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple programs simultaneously
  • Experience in community organizing, grassroots mobilizing, or public policy
  • Proficient in basic computer skills and willingness to learn database management
  • Valid US Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle

 

SALARY and BENEFITS:

  • This is a full-time position, which may require occasional evening and weekend work for event support.
  • Regular travel, especially to core outreach areas such as Columbus, Macon, and Athens, is expected.
  • The salary for this position starts at $42,000 - 45,000 per year based on experience.
  • The position includes PTO, holiday, and sick leave pay. GIPL also provides a comprehensive benefits package, including full medical, dental, vision insurance, life and disability insurance, 401k plan with match, and cell phone/internet reimbursements.
