Description

This position supports a customer mechanical engineering organization working maritime and undersea systems in the Annapolis, MD area. The work spans concept development, problem solving, technical planning, design development, and the integration and testing of undersea hardware. You will translate customer requirements into system solutions that account for technical, schedule, and cost constraints, working on a collaborative team where priorities shift across several concurrent projects. Strong candidates bring demonstrated hardware design experience, a working knowledge of design-for-manufacturing practices, and comfort developing the engineering processes, procedures, and documentation that support small- to medium-quantity production. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. The position may be filled at either of two experience levels depending on background.

Responsibilities

  • Lead concept development and technical planning for undersea hardware and systems.
  • Translate customer requirements into system solutions that balance technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Carry mechanical designs from concept through detailed design, integration, and test.
  • Apply design-for-manufacturing practices to hardware intended for small- to medium-volume production.
  • Develop engineering processes, procedures, and documentation that support manufacturing.
  • Analyze complex technical problems and drive them to resolution.
  • Support hardware integration and testing, troubleshooting issues found during build and test.
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines and communicate designs, trade studies, and status clearly to technical and program audiences.


Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Ocean Engineering, or an equivalent STEM discipline) with a minimum of 5 years of experience, or an MS with a minimum of 3 years. For the senior level: BS with a minimum of 8 years, MS with 6 years, or PhD with 4 years.
  • Proficiency with common engineering design, production, analysis, and office tools.
  • Ability to work 100% onsite at a customer facility in the Annapolis, MD area.
  • Current, active U.S. Government Secret clearance, with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI with CI polygraph.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
  • Proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with undersea vehicle and system design.
  • Demonstrated success in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects being developed and deployed simultaneously.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph.
