Description

Our client is a trusted provider of mission-enabling solutions for global security, and its engineering organization develops, designs, produces, and sustains optimized product lines across a broad portfolio of advanced programs. This opening is for an experienced systems engineer in the cyber specialty discipline, serving as a Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) on a team building a new solution that operates in a multi-level security environment. The work sits at the intersection of systems engineering and cybersecurity: decomposing and modeling requirements, shaping architecture, and making sure security is designed in rather than bolted on.

You will join a specialized cyber systems engineering team supporting customer launch and defense programs, working alongside an extended community of government, client, and supplier cybersecurity practitioners spread across multiple program locations.

Schedule: full-time.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Model-Based Systems Engineer on a team developing a new solution that operates in a multi-level security environment, working in an Agile, DevSecOps model.
  • Provide technical decisions and guidance within the systems engineering group to enable timely, high-quality product deliveries and flight test events that meet mission cyber requirements.
  • Propose and design cyber architecture changes with clear traceability to requirements, and provide implementation guidance and oversight across technical teams.
  • Ensure system compliance with all contractually obligated DoD and service-level cybersecurity standards and guidance, including CNSSI 1253, DoDI 8510, and DoD 8570/8140.
  • Perform cyber attack-surface analysis of system designs and recommend mitigations that measurably reduce risk.
  • Support cybersecurity assessment activities, including review of assessment methods, plans, procedures, and reports, and the planning and execution of security penetration testing.
  • Participate in engineering reviews and program engineering review boards covering technical requirements, design, and implementation plans for computer systems, digital communications systems, networking devices, and computer architectures.
  • Collaborate across Integrated Product Teams and with government, client, and supplier cyber practitioners at multiple program locations; document standard engineering processes and procedures and provide input to program milestones, metrics, and schedules.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 8 years, Master's degree with 6 years, or a PhD with 4 years of experience in systems engineering, cybersecurity engineering, computer engineering, or computer science; or 14 years of experience in a cyber systems engineering related field in lieu of a degree.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • A current active Secret clearance is required to be considered.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
  • Ability to obtain an IASAE II certification (CISSP preferred) within six months of hire, in accordance with DoDI 8570/8140.
  • Solid comprehension of systems engineering principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering to develop and model requirements.
  • Experience managing requirements or systems engineering artifacts using tools such as DOORS, Cameo, or JIRA.
  • Direct experience in one or more of the following: requirements decomposition, derivation, flow-down, and traceability; architecture; high-level and detailed design; implementation; integration and test; verification and validation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work semi-independently with general direction from senior leadership.
  • IASAE Level III certification (ISSEP, ISSAP) in accordance with DoDI 8570/8140.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Software assurance experience.
  • Expertise with Model-Based Systems Engineering and related tools such as Cameo.
  • Expertise with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity systems engineering practices, network technologies, and DoD system development life cycles and methodologies, plus insight into IT infrastructure management, monitoring, and applications.
  • Expertise with containerized software systems in accordance with the DoD DevSecOps Reference Design.
  • Experience innovating in cybersecurity accreditation processes within a multi-certification (cybersecurity, safety and surety, etc.) context as part of a digital engineering environment.
  • Experience authoring and maintaining critical program authorization documents such as cybersecurity strategies, system security plans, continuous monitoring plans, and security assessment plans.
  • Experience in a systems engineering role covering the planning, design, implementation, testing, and delivery of a system with cyber and information assurance requirements.
  • Experience managing and directing efforts under an Agile and DevSecOps process model, including analyzing, estimating, and implementing solutions to complex problems spanning multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, coordination, and interpersonal skills, with proven collaboration with program managers and customer representatives.
  • Ability to calmly negotiate challenging requirements, strategies, and conflicting constraints among a large and diverse group of program stakeholders.
