The Program Intern supports Generations For Peace USA in researching and analyzing local conflict, identifying possible partners, offering support in partner capacity building, and working closely with current and prospective partners to fuel its programmatic growth; and summarizing and updating information on these current/potential community partners in a database and in briefings. We strive to provide interns with substantive, rewarding assignments that match their interests. This position is an exciting opportunity to learn how a growing national organization develops programming and works as a liaison to sustain relationships in the community we serve.

Responsibilities

• Identify and research potential programmatic partners, influencers, thought leaders, and funders, and compile findings into a database and briefing reports.
• Develop and maintain internal documents for Generations For Peace USA programs, including a database dedicated to US programs that contains partner information, program monitoring and tracking information, etc.
• Generate monthly programmatic updates that encompass the status of partnerships, adherence to timelines, and suggested strategies for maintaining these relationships.
• Support in the preparation and delivery of virtual and in-person training for partners.
• Act as the representative for Generations For Peace USA at relevant virtual meetings and events, including those related to programs, working groups, coalitions, conferences, and summits.
• Fulfill other assigned duties as necessary.

 

NB: A detailed workplan will be developed by the Intern and Supervisor at the onset of the internship to identify key results targets (KRTs) (tasks and sub-tasks) expected of the Intern related to the above responsibilities. KRTs may be revised as needed to reflect new opportunities, and target deadlines will be mutually agreed upon for each of the tasks and sub-tasks under them.

 

Qualifications and Skills

• All applicants must have valid work authorization in the United States. We are unable to sponsor work authorization for this internship, but will accept OPT/CPT candidate
• Current student or recent graduate in a relevant discipline; Master’s-level students and/or applicants who receive university credit for the internship are preferred.
• Excellent spoken and written English, and in particular top quality written English communications
• Excellent attention to detail and time management skills, ability to handle multiple competing deadlines and priorities
• Experience drafting high quality communications in different formats
• Ability to conduct online research using search engines and databases
• Ability to organize and summarize text for various internal and external documents
• Excellent computer skills (documents, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, multi-media, calendars, email), and willingness to learn and use new software like Salesforce
• Cultural sensitivity and understanding of different interpretations of communications approaches in different global, regional, and local contexts
• Interest in global current affairs, conflict resolution and peacebuilding, and international development
• Proven ability to fit into a diverse, dynamic team as a team player, leader, mentor, and capacity-builder
• Preferred: Specific experience in expanding youth programs and building relationships with community partners in Chicago and/or DC

Compensation and Benefits

This is an unpaid, educational internship of limited duration. A job with Generations For Peace USA is not guaranteed upon completion of the internship.

Location

This internship is remote and may be based in the United States. Generations For Peace USA has a flexible work policy, with typical working hours from 9am-5pm CST Monday-Friday. There will be need for flexibility to carry out responsibilities on some nights and weekends, including approximately two Saturdays per month, and to engage with colleagues and partners in other time zones and with other availability. Your weekly schedule will adjust accordingly.

Generations For Peace USA is a 501(c)3 organization with roots in international peacebuilding and development. We were founded in November 2012 by Generations For Peace (GFP HQ), an acclaimed global peacebuilding organization headquartered in Jordan.

Today, we are comprised of a small, skilled US-based team representing diverse identities, geographies, industries, and lived experiences from across the country. We are united in our shared commitment to apply GFP’s global model to bridge divides, strengthen communities, and build peace in the USA. In 2019, we began programming in Chicago and opened an office in Washington, DC. In 2020, we relocated our US headquarters to Nashville, TN, where we are based today.

Generations For Peace USA has ambitious plans for growth and impact in the coming year. Our work in communities across the United States aligns with one or more thematic priorities: civic engagement and youth leadership, bridge building, and/or violence prevention. We use a variety of tools, including sport, arts, advocacy, dialogue, empowerment, and media. In the next year, we intend to scale our programs to communities across the USA and beyond.
