Collective Youth Program Coordinator & Lead Educator
Job Summary
The Collective Youth Program Coordinator/Lead Educator leads the planning, coordination, and delivery of GOKiC’s Collective Youth (CY) Program. This role combines program coordination with direct teaching and mentorship, supporting BIPOC youth ages 14–24 as they develop technical, academic, professional, and leadership skills.
The Program Coordinator/Lead Educator facilitates project-based technology education and workshops, supports college and career readiness, coordinates Youth Leader interns and Community Tech Volunteers, and builds relationships with BIPOC professionals in technology. Through an integrated lens of equity, identity, and leadership, this role helps young people build the skills, relationships, and confidence to thrive in technology and professional spaces.
This is a part-time, 25-hour-per-week position supporting GOKiC’s Collective Youth Program in West Seattle, WA. The role offers opportunities to lead program development, technology education, youth mentorship, and college and career readiness initiatives while continuing to grow professionally and develop leadership skills.
About the Collective Youth Program
Collective Youth is designed to equip BIPOC youth with the technical, academic, professional, and leadership skills necessary to thrive in technology and professional spaces. Program components include:

Key Responsibilities
The Collective Youth Program Coordinator/Lead Educator will:
- Support a caseload of approximately 35–45 youth participants throughout the year, helping participants develop as collaborative, confident, and professional leaders.
- Facilitate project-based computer science and technology learning using GOKiC curriculum.
- Develop and adapt engaging, culturally responsive curriculum in collaboration with GOKiC educators and curriculum staff.
- Facilitate learning experiences that explore the intersections of race, gender, identity, technology, and systems of power while centering BIPOC communities and lived experiences.
- Support participants in developing technical and professional skills, including communication, problem-solving, teamwork, leadership, and career readiness.
- Provide guidance related to college admissions, enrollment, financial aid resources, and higher education pathways.
- Coordinate Youth Leader interns through regular check-ins, group meetings, resource sharing, and Leadership Summits.
- Recruit, engage, and coordinate Community Tech Volunteers and BIPOC professionals to provide workshops, mentorship, networking, mock interviews, and career exploration opportunities.
- Plan and facilitate workshops, special events, conferences, and other CY learning opportunities.
- Build and maintain relationships with schools, community organizations, educational partners, and other stakeholders.
- Recruit and retain youth participants through intentional, relationship-based outreach.
- Foster a safe, respectful, collaborative, culturally responsive, and engaging learning environment.
Essential Functions
Program Activities | Approximately 60–70%
- Coordinate and facilitate CY programming, workshops, events, and special learning opportunities.
- Teach computer science and technology using GOKiC curriculum and coordinate enrichment activities led by professional volunteers.
- Collaborate with educators and curriculum staff to design, adapt, and implement culturally responsive technology curriculum.
- Engage local BIPOC technology professionals in mentorship and volunteer opportunities.
- Support youth development, academic growth, career exploration, and college readiness.
- Coordinate Youth Leader interns through check-ins, meetings, resources, and Leadership Summits.
- Recruit, train, coordinate, and support program volunteers.
- Maintain a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
Community Outreach | Approximately 15%
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with schools, community organizations, educational partners, and other stakeholders.
- Recruit and retain participants through intentional outreach and relationship-building.
- Create and distribute program outreach and promotional materials.
- Communicate professionally and inclusively with youth, families, volunteers, partners, and community stakeholders.
Administrative | Approximately 15–25%
- Maintain accurate attendance, participant files, academic progress information, and program reports.
- Support the screening, interviewing, and onboarding of up to two Youth Leader interns per cycle.
- Maintain program documentation and communication systems and submit timely expense documentation.
- Participate in staff meetings, program/site huddles, and supervisor check-ins.
- Communicate consistently and promptly regarding program needs and responsibilities.
- Contribute to program highlights and impact documentation that capture participant engagement and success.
The percentage of time dedicated to each area may vary throughout the year based on the program calendar. For example, curriculum development and administrative planning may increase during school breaks when students are not in session.
Qualifications
Required
- Associate or bachelor's degree with a strong foundation in math, science, social science, English, education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of nonprofit program coordination or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience working with multicultural youth in educational or community-based settings.
- Interest in teaching computer science and/or coding, with basic computing and coding knowledge.
- Foundational understanding of teaching strategies, classroom management, and youth development.
- Ability to support students' social-emotional growth and create culturally responsive, inclusive learning environments.
- Strong project management, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and consistently follow through on responsibilities.
- Competency using PCs, Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and other common digital tools.
- Ability to successfully complete required background checks.
- Reliable, independent transportation and ability to travel throughout the Greater Seattle area.
Preferred
- Degree or academic background related to technology.
- Two or more years of teaching, facilitation, or training experience.
- Experience developing youth academic or enrichment programs.
- Experience coordinating or supporting volunteers and/or interns.
- Familiarity with college admissions, financial aid, and higher education pathways.
- Foundational knowledge of critical race theory and experience introducing equity-based concepts to youth.
- Strong cultural competency and awareness of one's positionality in educational spaces.
- Multilingual skills.
Schedule & Working Conditions
This position is scheduled for 25 hours per week, with availability generally required between 10:00 AM–6:00 PM, Monday–Friday.
- The majority of direct programming occurs between approximately 2:00–6:00 PM.
- Weekly scheduling may vary based on programming needs, workshops, events, school breaks, and other program activities.
- Occasional morning, evening, and weekend availability may be required for meetings, workshops, events, or other program activities.
- This is a hybrid position requiring both in-person and remote work.
- Remote work requires access to a reasonably distraction-free work environment.
- Reliable, independent transportation is required for travel to program sites and partner locations throughout the Greater Seattle area.
- Team members are expected to responsibly care for organizational equipment issued for their role.
- Must be able to lift and transport program materials and equipment, including laptops, robots, binders, and similar supplies.
- Must be committed to maintaining an environment where youth and staff feel safe, supported, respected, and encouraged.
Coordination of Youth Leaders & Support Staff
This is not a formal people-management role; however, the Collective Youth Program Coordinator/Lead Educator plays an important role in coordinating and supporting Youth Leader interns.
- Responsibilities may include participating in the screening, interviewing, and onboarding of Youth Leader interns; providing ongoing guidance and feedback; supporting accountability; and making recommendations regarding their participation and performance.
- When Assistant Educators, volunteers, or other support staff are assigned to Collective Youth programming, this role will provide day-to-day program guidance and collaborate with them to support successful programming and a positive learning environment.
