Role Overview

We are seeking a visionary and strategic Staff Product Designer to join our team. In this role, you will lead the end-to-end design strategy, system architecture, and user experience for complex digital applications, deeply leveraging AI-assisted workflows and generative tools. Working closely with cross-functional partners in engineering, product management, and government stakeholders, you will translate high-level business and technical capabilities into intuitive, accessible, and high-quality user experiences.

Key Responsibilities

End-to-End Product & Systems Design

Architect and design scalable, accessible web application experiences and design system components, utilizing AI tools to accelerate exploration and output.

Partner with engineering to align design tokens, component libraries, and RESTful API data flows with optimal front-end UI structures.

Implement responsive design and universal accessibility standards (WCAG) to ensure seamless experiences across devices and screen sizes.

AI-Powered Design Innovation & Modernization

Utilize generative AI and LLM capability to reimagine legacy software workflows, streamline complex user journeys, and accelerate iterative prototyping.

Establish AI-driven design workflows—including generative layout tools, automated component documentation, and AI-assisted UX copy generation—to speed up product iteration while maintaining high quality.

Usability Testing & Design Validation

Develop and lead multi-method usability testing plans, research studies, and design validations to ensure modernized applications meet user needs and accessibility standards.

Leverage AI tools for synthetic testing, scenario generation, user research analysis, and quantitative validation of design patterns.

Strategic Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner directly with Product Managers, Front-End Engineers, and key stakeholders to turn ambiguous technical constraints into clear design strategies and intuitive user experiences.

Lead design critiques and joint engineering reviews to ensure visual fidelity, maintain system consistency, and foster cross-disciplinary knowledge sharing.

Drive continuous process improvement across product design, design systems, and developer handoff workflows.

Stay at the forefront of generative AI advancements, continually exploring how emerging technologies can improve UX design methodologies and application modernization efforts.

Desired Qualifications

Deep Product Design & Systems Expertise: Mastery of UI/UX fundamentals, design systems, responsive layout frameworks, rapid prototyping, and visual design patterns.

AI-Driven Design Workflows: Hands-on experience integrating AI models and LLM APIs (e.g., Claude, Gemini) into design processes, user flows, and product interfaces.

Prompt Engineering & Model Mechanics: Understanding of prompt engineering techniques and different LLM architectures to effectively design AI-native user interfaces and design system automation.

Domain Context: Proven background designing digital products within government technology programs or highly regulated enterprise environments.

Design Leadership: Ability to drive product vision, align cross-functional stakeholders, and establish best practices across design and engineering interfaces.
