At Fundamentals, we believe every young person deserves to be understood, supported, and given the opportunity to succeed.
As a Direct Support Professional, you'll work directly with children and youth, helping them build skills, navigate challenges, and experience success. Depending on your schedule, you may support youth in our Education Program or Afterschool Program.
What You'll Do
Every day is different. You'll work one-on-one and in small groups to provide academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and life-skill support.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with youth
- Support behavioral, social, emotional, academic, and life-skill development
- Provide individualized support based on each youth's strengths, needs, and goals
- Follow individualized treatment plans, educational plans, and evidence-based strategies
- Help youth work through challenging situations and develop positive alternatives
- Support emotional regulation, coping skills, communication, and independence
- Turn everyday activities and interactions into opportunities for growth and learning
- Support youth during classroom activities, recreation, community outings, and daily routines
- Collaborate with teachers, clinicians, case managers, and other members of the youth's support team
- Document progress and communicate observations with the team
What Makes This Work Different?
Our youth may have emotional, behavioral, mental health, or developmental challenges, and many have struggled in traditional settings.
Your role is about more than supervision. You'll help youth build the skills, confidence, and relationships they need to experience success.
You might help a student work through a difficult assignment, support a young person through a challenging moment, practice communication or coping skills, or simply help them discover something they're good at.
