A Bousquet Ski area lift attendant plays a vital role in the safe and efficient operation of ski lift systems. They are responsible for assisting guests as they load and unload from the chairlifts and carpet lifts. Lift attendants ensure that lift operations adhere to safety standards while providing friendly and helpful guest service. This position requires alertness, physical stamina, and excellent communication skills, as it often involves working outdoors in harsh winter conditions. 

Job Description 

• Guest Service: Greet skiers and snowboarders, answer questions about the resort or lift system, and provide information regarding lift safety and loading procedures. 
• Assisting with Loading and Unloading: Help guests, including children and those with special needs, board and disembark lifts safely and efficiently. This sometimes involves physically assisting individuals. 
• Monitoring Lift Operation: Observe the function of the lift, watch for hazards, and maintain a clear loading and unloading area. Lift attendants must remain vigilant to ensure no obstructions or unsafe behavior occurs near the lifts. 
• Emergency Procedures: Respond calmly and efficiently in case of a lift stoppage, guest accidents, or other emergencies. Attendants must be familiar with evacuation protocols and first aid basics. 
• Communication: Maintain constant communication with other lift attendants, operators, and supervisors via radio or direct interaction to relay information about operating conditions, guest behavior, and any incidents. 
• Lift Maintenance Support: Perform basic cleaning and maintenance tasks such as de-icing chairs, shoveling snow from loading/unloading zones, and checking safety bars for proper function. Assist in pre-operations checks and post-operation shut down procedures.  
• Enforcement of Rules: Politely enforce resort rules and safety regulations, such as helmet use or weight limits, and address unsafe practices as they arise. 
• Record Keeping: Log lift operation details such as start and stop times, incident reports, and maintenance activities as required by resort policy. 
• Complete all required training to include on-line and on the job training as approved by management.  

 

NOTE: All Bousquet Mountain employees are required to perform alternate functions from time to time, both within and outside of their assigned department, particularly during peak periods such as holiday weekends. 

Job Requirement 

• No formal education is required; however, a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. 
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights (often up to 50 lbs), and work outdoors in cold, snowy, and windy conditions. 
• Attention to Detail: Keen observational skills to monitor guests and lift operations and to quickly identify potential hazards. 
• Communication Skills: Ability to interact professionally and courteously with guests and coworkers, sometimes under stressful conditions. 
• Teamwork: Willingness to work collaboratively with other staff and management to ensure smooth operations. 
• Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to handle unexpected situations calmly, such as mechanical malfunctions or guest injuries. 
• Customer Service Orientation: A friendly, approachable demeanor and a genuine desire to assist guests in having a safe and enjoyable experience. 
• Basic Mechanical Knowledge: While not always required, familiarity with machinery and simple troubleshooting is beneficial. 

Work Environment Considerations 

Ski area lift attendants primarily work outdoors in alpine environments, often exposed to extreme cold, wind, snow, and sun. The work is physically demanding and requires proper winter clothing and gear, which may be provided by the employer. Shifts may start early in the morning and extend into the evening, including weekends and holidays, aligning with peak operating hours of the ski resort. 

 

Employment Status 

The holder of this position is considered to be a seasonal, part-time employee and will not be eligible for Company benefits other than those which are required by law. Other benefits such as those outlined in the employee handbook will be provided. This position at Bousquet Mountain will be consistent with the concept of employment At Will in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, which means there is no guarantee of employment, and both the employer and employee can terminate the employment relationship at any time with or without reason and with or without notice.
