About Fortis Enterprises
Fortis is a managed IT services, cybersecurity, and cloud provider serving regulated-industry clients. We're in a high-growth phase and building the financial backbone to support our expanding recurring-revenue base, M&A advisory services, and audited compliance (SOC 2, ISO).
Role Summary
The Finance Controller owns the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the business, and is the first dedicated finance hire as Fortis moves from founder-managed bookkeeping to a structured finance function. This person closes the books, manages cash, and turns our recurring-revenue data into the metrics leadership uses to steer the company. Success in this role means leadership can trust every number and make decisions on real-time MRR, ARR, margin, and cash visibility.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Close
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close in QuickBooks Online; deliver financials within [5] business days of month-end.
- Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and reconciliations (bank, credit card, payroll, deferred revenue).
- Manage the QBO–Salesforce data flow so invoicing and revenue recognition stay in sync with the CRM/PSA system of record.
Recurring-Revenue & MSP Metrics
- Track and report MRR, ARR, net revenue retention, churn, and per-tier margin (Core, Shield, Enterprise) and per-add-on (vCISO, BCDR).
- Build and maintain revenue recognition for recurring contracts, including ramp, mid-term upgrades, and partial-month proration.
- Reconcile seat counts and service tiers against billing to catch revenue leakage.
Billing, AR & AP
- Run the full billing cycle: invoice generation, collections, and AR aging; drive DSO down.
- Manage vendor payments, expense approvals, and AP aging; own vendor/license cost tracking against the existing tech stack.
Cash, Budgeting & Forecasting
- Maintain a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast and the annual operating budget.
- Partner with the CEO on hiring-plan affordability, unit economics, and scenario modeling against the company's growth plan.
Compliance & Controls
- Implement and document internal financial controls suitable for a SOC 2 / ISO environment.
- Support audit readiness, tax filings (with external CPA), and any financial due diligence tied to the M&A advisory service line.
- Manage payroll processing and ensure accurate cost allocation across departments.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 1–2 years in a controller, assistant controller, or senior accountant role.
- Strong command of QuickBooks Online and advanced spreadsheet skills.
- Demonstrated experience with recurring-revenue / subscription accounting (SaaS, MSP, or similar).
- Solid grasp of GAAP, revenue recognition, and month-end close discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an MSP, IT services, or technology company.
- Familiarity with Salesforce (especially as a billing/PSA source of record) and QBO integrations.
- CPA or CMA, or active progress toward one.
- Exposure to SOC 2 / ISO audit support or working in a controls-driven environment.
Success in the First 90 Days
- Take over and stabilize the monthly close, hitting the target close timeline.
- Stand up a reliable MRR/ARR/churn dashboard leadership can trust.
- Document core finance SOPs (close, billing, AP) and identify the top control gaps.
