Description

About Forge

Forge helps Massachusetts homeowners stay comfortable and use less energy, through heat pump installs and Mass Save insulation and Weatherization.

We're a mid-sized company covering Eastern Massachusetts, with an office in Newton, building out an in-house HPC energy team. The person in this seat will help complete mass save assessments working a territory across Eastern Massachusetts. We value good work, reliability, and problem-solving ability, and we're candid with each other about what's working and what isn't.

The Role

As our Insulation & Weatherization Energy Auditor, you'll be the link between homeowners, Mass Save program requirements and our weatherization crews. You'll visit homes across the Greater Boston / Eastern MA area, test how they perform, write clear insulation and air sealing scopes, and verify that finished work meets program standards.

Most of your week is in the field, with some office/home-working time for reports and paperwork. Your work decides whether a home actually gets warmer and tighter, and whether the job passes inspection the first time.

Pay and Benefits

  • Pay: On target earnings of $75,000-$80,000 yearly (base plus commission structure), based on experience and open to discussion
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday
  • Travel: Mileage reimbursement; you will be required to use your own vehicle for travel but we are open to discussing this in ongoing reviews
  • Benefits: Health, dental, flex PTO, 401(k) match

What You'll Do

In the Field

  • Home Assessments: Inspect attics, walls, basements and crawlspaces for insulation levels, air leakage and barriers to work like knob-and-tube wiring, vermiculite or mold. Complete combustion safety testing in accordance with BPI and Mass Save standards
  • Homeowner Walkthroughs: Explain findings and recommended measures in plain language, and help homeowners understand their Mass Save incentives. Help homeowners develop a prioritized action plan for efficiency improvements based on their goals and needs.

In the Office

  • Scopes of Work: Write accurate insulation and air sealing scopes using Mass Save guidelines and priority lists.
  • Program Paperwork: Enter audit results into Mass Save systems and keep documentation complete and on time. Draft detailed Planview documents that meet and exceed program admin requirements. Collect detailed photos to submit as part of each HEA.
  • Customer followup and pipeline management: Ensure customer requests, calls, and emails are answered in a reasonable timeframe and eligible insulation work is both offered and followed up on.
  • Crew Handoffs: Brief crew chiefs on each job's scope, safety considerations and any barriers to resolve first. Make sure the crew is aware of any Beyond Mass Save ancillary offers and work is priced accordingly.

Required Qualifications

  • Active BPI certification, in good standing
  • Ideally 2+ years of experience in energy auditing
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen (we do not test for marijuana)
  • Mass Save program experience

What Makes You a Forge Fit

  • You can figure things out. When you hit something new, you dig into program guidelines, manuals and other resources to find the answer before asking. You’re comfortable working on your own in the field, managing your day, and making sound calls without someone looking over your shoulder.
  • You're easy to work with. You're friendly and clear, whether you're in a homeowner's kitchen or briefing a crew chief at 7 a.m., and you give and take feedback well -- everything is a constant learning experience.
  • You’re comfortable with technology. You pick up tablets, audit apps and program portals quickly, and when a process is clunky, you look for a better way.
  • You know Mass Save. You understand the program's insulation and air sealing requirements, and you notice when the rules change. You understand the ins and outs of the income eligible program, turnkey program, and can help guide customers into the pathway that best serves their needs.
